Plenty of sunshine headin' my way. Nat always enjoyed travel, especially when it was for a purpose. Granted she was only happy when it didn't require a plane, but luckily that wasn't something she ever had to worry about. Visiting friends was Nat's favorite passtime and she had a whole week free thanks to fall break. Since it was ages since she saw Dahlia, she decided to make a trip to the small town in North Carolina. She drove the entire way in her cute little yellow Beetle convertible. It was roughly a ten hour drive and she didn't make a single stop on the way except for gas. At one of the stations, there was a Subway next to it and so she got herself a six inch BLT.
She drove the rest of the way her friend's newest address. She didn't think she ever visited Harper Valley before, but being 3,000 years old she had been to quite a few places. She couldn't be expected to keep track of them all. It just wasn't possible. So, after driving for half the day, she finally pulled up to Dahlia's house. She parked on street and shut off her car. She slid out and through her tiny dark angel backpack over her right shoulder before she practically bounced up to the front door. She knocked and waited, expecting Dahlia to answer.

Damian groaned as he heard a knock on the door and he slowly was was roused from his sleep. He had worked the night shift and was catching up on his sleep on the couch when he was pulled from his peaceful slumber. Admittedly, he wasn't sure if his sister was home or not so he waited a couple minutes to find out but much to his dismay he couldn't hear her so with a moan he got up and walked to the door, fixing his hair when he passed a mirror hanging on the wall along the way.
He looked down at his police uniform, shrugging at the unbuttoned shirt and white tee shirt underneath. It would have to suffice since he had wasted so much time being lazy and then fixing his hair. Finally, he unlocked the door and swung it open. "Hello?" he asked sleepily as he rubbed his eyes. He then looked at the woman to see if he knew her but he didn't and he didn't recall Dahlia telling him about a guest, though he probably wouldn't have remembered his his tired state. "How can I help you?"

Nat was practically bouncing as she waited for the door to open. When it did, she was surprised. She froze mid-bounce before she tilted her head and looked him over. He looked tired and suddenly she felt bad for waking him.
"You are not Dahlia," she stated bluntly. "Sorry. I know I should have called but I have week of nothing to do and thought surprising her would be fun. Dahlia does live hear, right? I mean of course she does. I never get important information wrong. I'm Nat."
She spoke a little fast but the smile never left her lips. Honestly, it was just the way she was plus roughly 10 hours stuck in a tiny car was enough to intensify her already chipper personality. She was a sweet little thing with a bright side equal to a perpetual sugar high.
"I woke you up didn't I?" she asked after she finally caught a breath.

Damian's eyebrow arched high as the woman in front of him kept on talking. She was going on like a child with a sugar high and he was having a hard time catching up. He furrowed his brow as he tried to process what was going on and then finally he caught up and nodded at the original remark. "I have a bit too much stubble to be Dahlia." he scratched his chin, which barely had a five o'clock shadow, however his point still stood.
He offered her a sleepy smile then and shook his head and then shrugged, "Admittedly, you did. But I was napping on the couch and should have been up by now anyway. Anyway, I am Damian. Dahlia's little brother. She isn't home right now but I am sure she'll love your surprise. She loves guests. Please, come in" he moved to the side to let her enter.

"No, definitely too much stubble," she agreed.
She almost walked in at his invitation but paused, slapped her forehead, held up a finger and rushed back to her car. She popped the trunk open and took out the bags she had forgotten to grab. She returned and stepped inside the house.
"Can't forget junk food and other yummy snacks, can we?" she asked him with a smile. "Where can I put these so they're not in the way?"
She wasn't intruding or anything. It was precisely the opposite. A surprise visit, to her, meant providing her own food and stuff. She planned to share of course if they wanted anything, but she wasn't going to expect them to cater to an unexpected guest. It was her way, just that simple.

When she ran back to her car without a word Damian tilted his head to the side and watched her until she returned. He could tell her time her definitely wouldn't be boring, that was for damn sure. When she walked in with bags she chuckled, "I like a girl that has junk food at the ready." he said with a small smile. He regularly ate much like a poor college kid might so that statement was incredibly true.
Then he realized he had to do the polite thing and take those bags from her and he twitched a bit as he built up the courage to do so. "Let me get those for you." he said before he reached for them. He was cautious, being sure not to touch her as he did so and then heading towards the dining room table. "I don't think I caught your name...?"

She grinned at his admission and laughed until he took the bags. She blinked a few times before following him to the dining room. She hadn't expected it, but she wasn't the type to complain about a helping hand. Instead, she waited for him to set the bags on the table before she started pulling things out of them. She didn't take everything out. It was only a liter of Pepsi.
"Mind if I stick this in your freezer for a while?" she asked, holding up the liter. "I forgot to buy more while I bought the dips."
She had planned to get them at the store just outside of town, but Nat was spacey and really shouldn't be trusted with anything. She always got distracted and forgot something. That in mind, she did at least remember the assortment of goodies, worthy dips like the cream cheese she just had to get for the bag of fritos.
"Natália," she said. "Feel free to call me Nat, though. Most people do."

Damian's eyebrows seemed to dance in amusement as he watched her and he nodded once, "Of course you may. I can take you to the store if you need so you can buy anything you might have forgotten to get." he offered with a smile before leading her into the kitchen and opened the freezer. It was mostly full of the assorted frozen junk food that his sister didn't really approve of since she did most of the cooking but he quickly cleared out a space for her to fit the bottle and moved out of the way. "There you go."
Then he realized he had gotten her name and he twitched. Usually people expected hand shakes or some form of human contact when proper intros were made. Dear god, he wished that wasn't the case, though he prepared himself for it mentally in case it happened. He didn't want to flip out on her for things beyond her control. "It's nice to meet you, Nat. Welcome to Harper Valley. " his right hand clenched and then unclenched quickly.

"I think I just forgot the ice," she said, putting the Pepsi in the space he made for her. "Thanks though."
She then turned to look at him as he shifted back to the usual pleasantries that came with introductions. She watched him closely but Nat had never been the formal type. Plus, going off the subtle clues, she was willing to bet he was dreading the formality. She might have been spacey and flighty, but she was also observant when she was actually focused. So instead of offering her hand, she skipped passed him and back to her bag of goodies. She opened the bag of Fritos and held it out for him.
"Want some?" she asked, practically holding the bag up to his face. "I didn't bring these to hog them all you know."

"Ah. Well we definitely don't need to make a run. We have plenty of ice." Damian said while scratching the back of his neck awkwardly. He wished Dahlia was here, at least then he wouldn't feel so anxious.
However, the hybrid was really surprised, pleasantly so, when she skipped passed him and returned to her bag of junk food. He relaxed some then, glad she wasn't one for formality, and smiled. He leaned back just slightly when the bag of Fritos was too close for his comfort. He just shrugged it off though and reached into the bag, grabbing a few before starting conversation, So how do you know my sister? I admit, I don't know a lot of her friends."

Nat set the bag down to open up a tub of cream cheese and dipped a frito in it as she thought about his question. She thought back to when she and Dahlia met as she popped the frito in her mouth.
"Honestly, I don't really remember," she admitted. "There was a significant amount of height involved that day. See, I was hiking and tried to cross a bridge and one of the boards broke. I looked down and went into a panic and booked it. Well, no. Actually, I feebly scooted off the bridge. And I may have bumped or collided into Dahlia in the process."
Heights were the one thing that could possibly send her crying like a baby. Strike the possibly, it was fail proof. She went from a 3,000 year-old werecat to bawling pile of mush. Granted, she wasn't exactly ferocious. She was just a tad too sweet.

Damian popped a couple more Fritos into his mouth and nodded, "Dahlia would make friends with someone that collided into her. Especially if they are scared when it happens." he said. He smiled, this girl was rather amusing in the laugh-with-you-not-at-you kind of way. Despite his hesitations about being near anyone that wasn't his sister for fear of them turning on him he was actually kind of relaxed around Nat. Admittedly still on guard but he almost always was, it was a force of habit.
Without a word he turned his back–spine surprisingly not tense when he did–and went to the fridge. After pulling out a bottle of water and opening it he returned to her, grabbing a few more Fritos before he came to a stop. "So... Fritos and cream cheese? That's an interesting combo." he noted with a single raised brow.

"I know," she said. "I'm the same way. Probably why we get along so well."
She took more fritos and dipped each one into the cream cheese, popping them in her mouth one at a time. She tilted her head and watched as he made his way back to the kitchen. Since the conversation so far was strictly on herself and Dahlia, she knew absolutely nothing about him. Except for what Dahlia had told her, which was simply the basics. He was her brother and maybe she had mentioned a few other things in passing but nothing significant. So, she was curious to say the least. Not in a nosey way, but then again, Nat had a thing about shiny new things.
She was mid-dip when he returned asked commented on her favorite combination. She popped the cream cheese-covered chip in her mouth and raised an eyebrow right back at him. She raised the tub up to him and swallowed her frito before responding.
"Try it before you knock it, buddy," she demanded. "It's actually really good, especially when you get the flavored kind. Honey & nut is amazing and strawberry isn't bad either."

Damian’s eyebrows went from quirked up to dancing in amusement as a smile graced his lips. He didn’t smile often around people he didn’t know but she was nonthreatening thus far and didn’t even expect the formalities he usually dreaded, probably because she noticed the twitch but he was okay with that.
”Oh really? Okay then. I will give it a try.” he stepped closer to her‒leaving plenty of space for his comfortablity level to stay at its current level‒and dipped one of the fritos in his hand into the cream cheese. One brow raised quickly in surprise as he tried the not so weird combination. “Touché, Nat… This is actually pretty good.” he said with a smile before he dipped another frito into the cream cheese and then he backed away.
He removed his unbuttoned uniform shirt, dropping it onto the table for him to take care of later, revealing scars that he quickly covered up with a hoodie that had sat on the back of one of the chairs. He was far more comfortable now in his soft black hoodie‒which was admittedly used as a security blanket most of the time‒so he was able to gather the ability to ask her to make herself comfortable. “Would you like to join me in the living room? It’s a lot more comfortable than standing here.” he said before he tugged his lip into his mouth in his nerves.

Nat grinned triumphantly as she watched him try it. It amused her and made her happy. Not many people humored her strangeness. When they did, she was almost always delighted even if they ended up hating it and just ended up thinking she was even crazier. It wasn't a stretch. She supposed she had some odd preferences, but she didn't mind that she was a little different. She certainly wasn't the strangest thing in the world. “Told ya so,” she said in a singsong tone.
When he asked for her to join him in the living, she simply nodded. Honestly, she didn't mind standing. She was a high school history teacher. Standing was a part of her job description. The only time she usually sat down was after her lessons and only when her students were starting on the assignment. Then there was the coaching thing. She rarely if ever sat down then. She was usually to busy burning energy when all she wanted to do was swim too.
“Can we eat in there or should I put the food away?” she asked. Personally, she didn't care where people ate but that was only in her house. This wasn't her house, though, and she didn't want to be rude.
