There was a voice in his head… A foreign voice, obviously. It was simply a whisper, but it spurred the hate and anger inside of him… He could feel his blood begin to boil, and his fury begin to rise… However, he did not appreciate being manipulated, and he found the strength inside to subdue the voice. Regardless, it also spiked his curiosity: what being could have gotten inside his head? It would certainly require a being of immense power. It was a dangerous lead to pursue, but Viktor decided to recklessly follow it anyway. There was very little he was afraid of, and it would take all of Hell to bring him to his knees.
Leaving without notice, for he did not want to be escorted on this personal mission, he left the Scarlet Council Sanctuary. Security knew better than to question him or stand in his way, so he was released without a fuss. He forte was not power detection; nevertheless, he could sense a great wealth of energy, which was likely the source. He tracked it all the way to New Orleans. He knew from sources that for more than a century, demons have been wrestling for control of that state. Perhaps one of the demons was the source of the whisper? Only one way to found out…

The demon wasn't just any demon. There were few that had his level of power and none could come close to what Sathanus could do. As a Demon Lord, there were six others that had the ability to cause as much destruction with equal devastation. In his domain, however, he ruled completely and without question. While his “siblings” were equals in every right, none could do what the other could. Just as he had no standings on the lust or gluttony of the mortals around him, not one of them could bring out the sort of hateful violence he could. As much as they were equals, they were also individuals and together they could be apocalyptic. At least that was Sath's theory. With the angels breathing down the Sins' necks and trailing after them to clean up, it was hard to say just how much potential the group had as a whole without interference.
That wasn't the matter at hand for the day, though. He was occupied with his own job rather than the potential of his family. No, today he was expecting someone. Normally, he was careful in his manipulation. As the very personification of wrath, Sath knew how to go about it undetected even with the more powerful of beings. He was one of the oldest things on the planet and had perfected his skills to an art. So to leave a trail that led directly to him meant he didn't care if he was found or not. Most of the time the Demon Lord preferred being undetected. On a recent trip to New York, however, he came across a magi that caught his interest. So, he chose to play with the man. He wanted to see if he would take the bait. It amused him when he heard whispers of a new magi in town. It didn't take long for Sath to find him and quickened his pace until he was behind him.
“Looking for something?” he asked.

It did not take long for his quarry to find him or to start breathing down his neck… Viktor had to admit he was flattered that a demon had taken such an interest in him that he had summoned Viktor indirectly. At the same time, Viktor was furious, whether it is his own doing or the demon’s influence, he was unsure. Regardless, his actions may be deemed reckless as he stood in the face of a great adversary. ”I seemed to have found what I was looking for… A puppeteer.”Viktor’s icy blue eyes flashed dangerously as he regarded the “man” before him. His nose told him better. This man certainly did not smell human and Viktor’s intuition filled in the rest. Viktor’s primary studies as a child may have been combat, but knowledge was also a form of weaponry. He spent centuries studying countless species, both mythical and biblical. Manipulation may have been the forte of demons, but Viktor was no stranger to it. ”Here’s the deal, if you think I am naïve and unaware of what you are, you are sorely mistaken, demon,” he hissed through clenched teeth. ”I am no pathetic human. Do not underestimate me.”Viktor stood firm, taking a deep breath, trying to get his anger under control and simmer his boiling blood. Perhaps his approach to this man was not the wisest; however, Viktor need to set a precedent. While there was definitely the opportunity to learn from this demon, Viktor needed him to know he was not a regular human, or even a regular Magi. He was so much more, so much stronger. There was opportunity for mutual benefit, as long as the demon could understand. Hopefully the demon appreciated those who took a strong stance because, if not, Viktor had made a powerful foe. Sath smirked at the observation. The magi really had no idea how true that word was. Puppeteer wasn't exactly the word he would use for himself but it was true nonetheless. He was a master and the world was his stage. Yes, that meant everything and everyone on it happened to be his and his siblings' toys. He was okay with that. He was even okay with the man's attitude.
“That make you the puppet?” he quipped snidely.
He was actually in a good mood for the most part. Then, the man decided to play the who's bigger game. Sath's eyes darkened at the clear threat. He had spunk. The Demon Lord had to give him that. It wasn't often Sath cornered something with a backbone. It was somewhat disappointing, however, that the spunk only meant he lacked common sense. Furious at being confused for the average run-of-the-mill demons that ran amuck around the world, Sath decided to show him how wrong he was. He used his Magik and pulled the air back. It wasn't too much, just enough to prevent the magi from getting a good gulp of it.
“Oh I know what you are, High Priest,” he said sarcastically. “But magi or human, you all still need to breathe in order to live. If you want to live a little longer, you'll do well to remember that I am no ordinary demon. I'm a lot older than you and a lot stronger regardless of your powers and experience. It wouldn't even take a thought for me to take away what little air I've allowed you to gasp for.”

For a rare moment, Viktor could not help but genuinely laugh. He had been caught in his own wording.
"It seems in this situation I would indeed be considered the puppet as I have been pulled along… to this dismal excuse for a state.”
Viktor seemed to have pushed a sensitive button as the Demon’s mood swiftly darkened. The Magi could feel a slight discomfort as he went to inhale. It was only a minor discomfort, however. Viktor had been through much worse… Frankly, in his lifetime, he had experienced nearly drowning, being nearly burnt alive, a trip to the gallows (which he escaped from obviously), and he had been stabbed on countless occasions. His pain tolerance was remarkably high. This Demon had to do more than tickle his throat if he wanted to impress Viktor. That being said, Viktor would ensure he would proceed with caution regardless.
The High Priest was impressed with himself, more so than he was with the Demon. After all, this Magi had crawled under the Demon’s skin in a matter of minutes of meeting him. Consequently, the Demon had shown a few too many of his cards. The first being he was an air manipulator. The second being he was more sensitive than his high-powered demeanour revealed.
The most frustrating part of this meeting – so far – was this Demon’s arrogance. Granted this was a being of incredible power and Viktor would have to play nice, the Demon had a nauseated amount of confidence, and duly underestimated Viktor. The Demon knew who he was, which was flattering, but did not fully understand what the High Priest was capable of. In his mind, Viktor was envisioning all the ways he could destroy the Demon. The most vivid was causing every cell in the Demon’s body to explode with an overcharge of energy. Viktor knew very well that the higher you go in the hierarchy of Demons, the more resilient they are to magic. At the same time, Viktor can perform feats that no Magi, past or present, could perform. Perhaps the Demon needed to do some more research before facing Viktor…
Regardless, Viktor knew how to be submissive and play the pitiful human. He also knew how to be the bigger “man.”
”I respectfully apologize. I should have known to go about with better manners. My mind feels foggy. I have never been to New Orleans, and the air feels thicker here – with magic and strife. Perhaps we can start this meeting anew? I feel more sane now after that brief venting.”

Sath let him breathe normally again as the man backtracked and went from arrogant and ignorant to somewhat respectful. Yes that was a poor understatement at best, but the Demon Lord figured cutting the man a little slack would benefit him in the long run. Not that he believed the magi for even a second. He just didn't care at the moment about the idiot's own motives for playing nice. He held out his hand for him to shake.
“That I can do,” he said. “My name is Damianos Kattalakis.”
He chose to use the human name for two reasons. The first was because he used it regularly in most business interactions with other supernatural species and humans alike. The second reason was simply the fact that dropping his real name would be dumb in general. His true name would give away his true identity as what and who he was. He was not interested in exposing that just yet. He inclined his head respectfully to the man.
“New Orleans can be an acquired taste,” he admitted. “If you would, follow me and we can speak more freely in my office.”
