[attr="class","ishy-content"]
Kitsunes are commonly found in Japanese folklore and are often referred to as "Fox Demons". Kitsunes have been around since the 11th century, though their exact origins are unknown. There are different types of Kitsune; Good Kitsune follow the God Inari and are benevolent, celestial foxes. "Yako Kitsune" are field Foxes, or Nogitsune Foxes, which tend to be mischievous or even malicious. "Kyubi no Kitsune" is a nine tailed fox that has gained all it's tails. When a Kitsune has gained all nine tails their coat turns white or gold. More specifically, there are thirteen different kinds of Kitsune, each with a corresponding element, listed as follows: Heaven (or Celestial or Prime), Void (or Dark), Wind, Spirit, Fire, Earth, River, Ocean, Mountain, Forest, Thunder, Time and Sound.
Kitsune look like normal foxes you would see in the wild except for their multiple tails. As there are many different types of normal foxes, you can image how their magical counterparts vary in color and patterns as well. For example, a nine tailed foxes coat will be white or gold where as a forest dwelling fox may take on more natural tones. When a Kitsune is in spirit form they appear as little round balls of blueish tints, some are purple, pink, or red. Kitsunes also have unique colored eyes when in animal form.
In human form; Kitsunes can mirror anyone or take on their own persona. When a Kitsune becomes human; they look just like your average human being. Once they choose their own persona they usually tend to stick with it, picking an appearance that best suits their individual maturity level and personality.
Kitsunes are by nature tricksters. Some tricks can lead to mischief or innocent fun. Most tricks are played on men but women aren't impervious to their ways. While, some Kitsune will play tricks on the boastful, the greedy, the proud, ect. the crueler ones play tricks on the poor, gullible and pure of heart. Usually, Kitsune only possess women as they are better suited for manipulation than men. Kitsunes are no different than a human being when it comes to personality however. By nature, they don't have a sense of morality, unless it was learned by human influence. Kitsunes are suppose to have great intelligence and wisdom, though, as most wisdom goes, that is earned with age. Kitsune love their freedom. To be locked away or be forced to do something against their will would be detrimental to their health, as well as yours.
Kitsunes are widely known to be shapeshifters as well possessors. Kitsunes when first born have a defense they can tap into. Illusions produced from the Kitsune allows the baby to blend into the environment around them and protect itself if threatened or frightened. When a Kitsune reaches a 100 years, they can finally shift into a human being or a duplicate of another human being. They can also even at young ages possess a young human girl or older men. No one understands why it has to be younger girl or older men. Some people suspect it may have to deal with the possessors will or their sensitivity to the supernatural.
Kitsunes can produce illusions even when young since it's what they use to protect themselves for the better part of their lifespan. As they grow they eventually come into their other abilities though signs don't appear until maturity; sixteen or sometimes even late twenties. Kitsunes use fox fire or Kitsune-bi; an ability to generate fire or lightening with the use of their mouths and tails. Willful manifestation in the dreams of others, flight, invisibility, and the creation of illusions so elaborate as to be almost indistinguishable from reality are common traits among Kitsune. Some tales speak of Kitsune with even greater powers, able to bend time and space, drive people mad, or take fantastic shapes such as a tree of incredible height or a second moon in the sky (though these are unplayable). Other kitsune have characteristics reminiscent of vampires or succubi and feed on the life or spirit of human beings, generally through sexual contact.
The humans who are possessed by a Kitsune aren't usually victims. More times than not, the Kitsune will grant the possessor the ability to use it's magic as long as the possessor respects the Kitsune. Kitsune can also grant gifts much like Genies. Some are tricks, but the intangible ones are not. Kitsunes can grant long life, protection, knowledge among other things but always at a cost.
When a Kitsune is in human guise they are left incredibly vulnerable to attack and can die as a normal human while in this form. The most common way to find out who is a Kitsune is by using a dog or an animal of canine relation. Kitsune are deathly afraid of dogs and the like. Another weakness would be their main tail when in fox form. This one tail is said to hold all of the Kitsunes power. Chop off that tail and the Kitsune will be no more. Kitsune have "Kitsune balls" or better known as "Star Balls". This is a Kitsunes most prize possession since it is basically a piece of their life force kept outside the body. If a person were to get their hands on a star ball they could enslave the Kitsune to do their bidding. However, if the Kitsune were to ever get their star ball back, the repercussions would be severe.
Kitsune can reproduce with most fertile living creatures. When a Kitsune has a child, that child will have a 50/50 chance of taking after either the mother or father and this selection is done by random. However if a Kitsune mates with a Magi, the child can obtain a portion of their Kitsune parents magic. Depending on how strongly the child takes after the Kitsune parent depends on the strength of the child's illusion.
In most cases, when a Kitsune's husband or wife discovers their Kitsune heritage they will leave, leaving the husband or wife to wake up feeling as if their mate was simply a dream. In rare cases a Kitsune will remain with their family, most likely due to a strong bond with their mate. Kitsune have a tendency to gravitate towards specific species depending on their nature.
