- Post Apocalyptic
- Government controls population by sterilizing humans and genetically creating children
- Everyone looks the same, Grey eyes, dark hair; flawless and perfect
- Everything is controlled via a strict system, including how jobs are chosen, who gets to start a family, who gets married to who and the diets everyone must be on, etc.
- One woman is able to conceive a child via a gene mutation that counteracted the sterilization and gives birth to the first child born in over two hundreds years.
- She keeps him secret, hiding him even from her family
- His name is Calloway and he has light colored hair and one grey eye and one blue eye.
- His mother was granted a child from the Government and, unknown to the rest of the community or even the Government, her husband and the infant she’d been given, died in an accident. She covered up Calloway by saying only her husband had died and the child, in fact, was still the same one. It just so happened, Calloway was the same age as the child who had perished.
- The story starts when he’s sixteen and a girl named Rias runs into him and is intrigued by his appearance.
- The whole story centers around bringing down the self appointed “Government” that controls human lives while meeting and creating bonds with those who live around him
In all his earliest memories, Calloway had never been allowed outside so when his mother bundled him up and covered half his face with a cloth and took him outside, he experienced a whole new world. She held tightly to his little hand, drawing him down the street. Not one person looked their way, going about their daily business as usual. The sun was beginning to set and already, the crowd that had bustled them when they’d left the house had thinned out to nothing more than a few people hurrying home from work. He watched with wide eyes at the sheer wonder of the world around him. Since the day he’d been born, he’d only experienced the inside of his mother’s house and had never come into contact with anyone else. Not even his father. Whenever he had asked, she had shushed him, saying he wasn’t allowed to talk about him.
Street lights were blinking on above him and he stopped to stare in wonder before his mother tugged his arm to keep moving. Finally, they came to a stop at a chain link fence and the massive expanse of the Government rose up behind it, windows lighting up like fireflies he’d seen in his mother’s backyard. He had to crane his neck to see the building in it’s entirety and the cloth covering his face fell away, revealing a wisp of blonde hair and one blue eye.
She bent and pulled the cloth back up, only his grey eye peering out at her and she smiled at him, her own grey eyes taking in his face with a sad expression, her dark hair tied in her usual braid over her shoulder. “Calloway, someday, you will change the world.” She looked over her shoulder at the Government. “Someday, you will stand tall above those who would otherwise look down at you and when that day comes,” she turned back to him, a smile playing on her lips as she touched her finger to his nose in a playful manner. “Everyone will love you and I will be the proudest mother in the world.”
She stood back up and took his hand, gently tugging on his arm for him to follow her. Finally, he pulled his gaze away from the building and followed her, not realizing just how important her words were.
In the year 2056, the world went to war. Not only did each country throw their nuclear weapons at one another, the United States implemented biological warfare. With just these two combined, more than three quarters of the world’s population was destroyed. A cease fire was called in the winter of 2067 and the creation of a new ‘Government’ was exercised. In an effort for control, this new Government decreed that all humans were to be subjected to sterilization and the new generation would be created strictly in a lab. For the next two hundred years, the human population reverted from being unique to being all in the same. Dark hair and grey eyes, no health issues and longevity. They were, in a sense, perfect. The Government decided which child went to which couple, who could marry who, and which job you would work. Diets were specially created pertaining to environments and education was limited to common everyday needs such as math, writing and reading. History books ceased to exist and higher learning was only given to those with special job training. Because of this Government control, peace reigned supreme.
