Personality
[attr="class","appcontent2"]It should come to no surprise that Calloway was an orphan. Being a Ghoul didn't guarantee a long and happy life. In fact, most Ghouls were killed before the age of twenty five. Cal's parents were part that statistic. Married at a young age, his parents conceived him right away. The family was happy for the first five years till they were discovered and only little Cal escaped. That was ten years ago. Since then, Cal has been doing his best to fit in, while also being a runaway. It's not that Cal hates the families that adopt him, he just knows it could never work out. Unable to eat or drink regular food, it became a lot harder pretending to eat then throwing it up later than it was to find his food source. Since he only had to eat once a month, it was easy for Cal to slip into funeral homes or hospitals and take what he needed. So a life on the streets, alone, suited him better than a home and family that would never understand him. The only con is his fear of being alone. His parents and instincts have taught him to avoid humans and yet, he has yet to find his own kind. Moving to New York City has given him the perfect opportunity to meet people once then never see them again> Most days, Cal spends his time wandering the streets but his favorite places are central park and the movies. These places give him enough entertainment to occupy his mind and where he can meet people. He's never worried about kidnappers. Once they realize what he is, they're usually dead. Cal doesn't make it a habit to kill people but if he can't get into a funeral home or hospital, he usually picks off from the homeless. Ever hear of the stories of the homeless cannibalizing? Cal's interference. Whenever you see Cal, he always has a piece of hard candy in his mouth. He makes them himself from his food sources, to stave off any unnecessary urges. On top of everything else, Cal is just a normal fifteen year old boy who likes to chase girls, play video games and have fun. He's not quick to anger but once he is, he could be your greatest enemy. He has extremely high family bonds so anyone he feels that is family, he will risk his life to protect, even if he knows he won't prevail. He also doesn't know when to give up. He'll push himself until be accomplishes whatever he's trying to do. Like any other fifteen year old boy, he has yet to understand the concept of love and although he's at a point where he can appreciate a beautiful woman, he finds the acts of love to be repulsive. He'll go on a date or two but he tends to make them more fun than romantic. Cal's darker side, however, has been known to shown through. When he doesn't eat in time, the usual month time period, he starts to lose control of himself. Part of this behavior is thanks to the original vampire poison that created the species. When he's in this state, anyone or anything near him is in danger and he won't regret anything until after he's eaten. Though he tends not to kill anyone, there's no stopping him when he's in his "blood lust". He's always sure to be well prepared before his time is up so he doesn't fall prey to this demonic side of him. He's also amazingly good at lying. He does it so well, even skilled lie detectors wouldn't be able to catch him and he'll lie anytime if it betters his situation. He's also very sneaky both with stealing and moving around unseen. Part instincts as a Ghoul and part street smarts. However, because of his age, he has yet to be able to hold himself in a real fight. He usually bails before things come physical.

History
[attr="class","appcontent2"]Cal's parents were still young when they had him. In their world, living past the age of twenty five was quite a feat and the couple desperately wanted to start their own family, no matter the destiny that awaited them. Calloway Hastings was born on August 27th at three in the morning, a screaming, healthy child. His parents loved him, spoiled him even and made sure he got everything he ever wanted. While teaching their child to blend into society and not stand out, they taught Cal how to hunt in the least noticeable way possible. Teaching Ghoul children early on how to feed and how to stay alive gave the newer generation the edge when it came to growing up and living a long life. Cal, like any other child, caught on quickly, following after his parents every moves, even at the tender age of three. For awhile, their small paradise was a dream and the family couldn't be happier. However, one month, Cal got sick. He'd eaten a bite of ice cream another child at the park had offered him and he found himself dangerously sick. Despite knowing that that particular night was their feeding night, the young parents decided to stay in and tend to their child. Poor decision. The next day, Cal's parents suffered from a "blood lust". Driven mad with hunger, they attacked the neighbor, devouring her and her dog before they were spotted. Humans naturally fear what they don't understand and instead of taking the time to understand, to see them as loving parents instead of flesh eating monsters, they butchered Cal's parents and set their small house on fire. Cal, five at the time, barely escaped alive.
Covered in soot, he wandered around the neighborhood until a mom with two children of her own, found him and took him to the police. And thus started his long and lonely road in and out of families who would never understand him. When he was ten years old, he managed to hitch hike across the state to New York City. He was stopped several times and taken to authorities but each time, Cal escaped and kept going. A couple times, he was kidnapped but his kidnapper was never able to breath a word of what happened next. Cal grew up in Pittsburgh and, though Pittsburgh was a large city, nothing prepared him for the enormousness of the Big Apple. He was able to wander the streets undisturbed and no one batted an eyelash. Living as an orphan on the streets turned out to be a lot easier than Pittsburgh. In New York City, there were hundreds of homeless, men and woman and no one cared if there was a young boy among the crowd. Those that did, never saw him again. He made sure to always keep on the move, never stay in one place for too long. He spends his days doing whatever he pleases and makes sure to visit either the funeral homes or hospitals once a week to keep from succumbing to the same "blood lust" that had gotten his parents murdered.
