heaven or hell or somewhere in between, cross your heart to take me when you leave
The familiar buzz of an alarm clock roused Liu from her sleep. Slowly, her sapphire eyes opened, fluttering to adjust to the light pooling in through her window. Reaching over with a small sigh, she tapped the alarm to shut it off before pushing the comforter from her body and standing up, stretching. It was a nice day out so far, but she remembered from yesterday's forecast of the weather that it was supposed to rain at some point today. Walking out of her bedroom, she turned slightly to the right into her kitchen, beginning her daily routine by starting up the coffee pot. She never made coffee in it, though. Tea was the only thing she brewed in it. Getting out two packets of vanilla chai tea, she began the brew cycle before heading back into her room to go into her bathroom. Liu had a rather nice condo that sat on the top floor. It was a two bedroom, two bathroom place with a full kitchen and living room. The neighborhood, for being in New York City, was even pleasant. Liu took a quick shower, washing her hair, body, and shaving her legs before hopping out and wrapping her hair in a towel. Deciding she wanted to dress in something simple, she stepped into her closet and picked out her black pencil skirt, a white three-quarter sleeved blouse, and black pumps.
As soon as she finished getting dressed, her coffee pot beeped letting her know that it was finished brewing her tea. Liu glanced at her alarm clock from the kitchen, seeing that it was seven thirty. She didn't have to be at work until nine o'clock, but she normally showed up at eight thirty to get a head start on the day. She quickly blow-dried her hair before taking a curling wand to it so it laid around her shoulders is large spirals which she ruffled to give it a more natural look. She applied a single line of eyeliner to her eyes then dashed her lashes with mascara before slipping her heels on and walking back out into her kitchen. She grabbed one of her to-go cups from the cabinet and filled it up with her tea, shut the coffee pot off, and made sure all of the lights were off before leaving her condo. Making her way down the hall to the elevator, she stepped inside and pressed the button for the ground floor. As she was going down, her cell phone rang and she pulled it out of her purse, seeing that it was just an email from work about a magazine that wanted to feature some of Liu's designs, she locked the screen and put it back in her purse. She would take care of those when she got into the office.
Once the elevator reached the ground floor, Liu stepped out and exited the building, walking next door to the parking garage to get her car. Before entering the building, she paused. It was a nice day, and she knew she wouldn't get much of a chance to enjoy the weather today, so she decided to walk instead. Tugging her purse higher onto her shoulder, she turned and started heading towards her place of work. The sunlight was warm on her golden skin, but the morning air was still cool. A few clouds dusted the pale blue sky. Liu smiled softly to herself. New York City was a really beautiful place once you actually took the time to appreciate the ingenuity of it. She stood amongst a crowd of people at a street crossing, waiting for the light to change so they could walk when someone slammed into her from behind, knocking her out into the street in front of a taxi that was barreling through the light. In an instant, she crouched and leaped across the street to the other sidewalk, landing softly on her feet. Oops... she thought, noticing how people were staring at her with wide eyes now. Ducking her head, she quickly began walking, ducking into an alley to take a shortcut.
Liu made it to her office, finally, greeting everyone she passed with a wide smile on her face. She made her way into her office, leaving the door open and sitting down at her computer to catch up on emails and conference calls before she got back to what she actually enjoyed doing; the design work.
Before she knew it, though, Liu's work day was over. She had stayed later to respond to more emails, calls, and to add more dates to her calendar. Check the time, it was around nine o'clock at night. Liu yawned, rising to her feet and pulling her bag over her shoulder. She made her way down the steps and out onto the sidewalk, crossing her arms across her chest to keep some of her body heat in. The temperature had dropped drastically. Her sapphire eyes lifted to the crescent moon, a small frown touching her lips. Her heart ached for someone whom she left behind a long time ago, and for the fact that the fear of never seeing him again would be the fate of their friendship. Liu missed him dearly. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she turned and began walking down the street back towards her condo.
