Jump back, what's that sound?
Out of all of the places in New York, the parks were her favorite. The city was a dangerous place at night, what with gangs and supernaturals running about, so Ollie found herself wandering Central Park alone at midnight, a beer loosely clutched in one hand and five more bottles stuffed into her backpack. The rest of the twelve pack were rammed somewhere in the depths of her car's trunk. She whistled a jaunty tune as she veered off of the path and walked down to the edge of the lake, half-paying attention to her surroundings.
Of course, she knew that she was just begging for trouble- walking around alone in the middle of the night in another pack's territory. But she had been in and out of the city several times without getting into any trouble in the past, and she'd probably manage to spend a few more days in her hotel room before having to split. Buuut that was wishful thinking. So instead of staying on her guard like any logical person would, she flopped down next to the water's edge and shoved the half-full bottle between her thighs- leaning over to yank off her boots and socks so she could dip her toes in the water.
With a drawn-out groan Ollie shrugged off her pack and set it next to her, lifting her beer up to her lips and taking another drink. She wrinkled her nose as she tipped her head back and stared up at the sky. Man- it was so depressing in New York. Sure, the night life was amazing and it was always changing, but Ollie couldn't get past the fact that she couldn't see the stars. She could see the stars in Harper Valley- but that was because she lived in a small little house a few minutes out of town.
She started thinking of all of the places she had stopped on her impromptu road trip the year before. She had spent two days slowly making her way north and had eventually crossed the border into Canada. She remembered that she had nearly frozen her ass off up in the Northwest Territories- she had gotten it into her head that she could easily handle the northern provinces in the dead of winter. Not one of her smartest moments, of course, but she also remembered running across the snowy plains and into the forests during the full moon one of the nights she was there- the Northern Lights dancing in the skies as she ran with the wolves native to the area.
Ollie was brought out of her train of thought at the sound of distant laughter. A group of people were slowly making their way past her- their joyous peals echoing across the park. With a grunt, she tipped up her bottle and finished off what was left. "Looks like it's time to go..." She pushed herself to her feet- stuffing the empty bottle into her bag and swinging it up onto her shoulder. "Dammit." She grunted, scooping up her boots and socks and walking up the bank. "Can't leave a girl to her drink and her thoughts." She reached into her bag for another beer, prying the lid off and flinging it off into the bushes to her left. She veered away from the lake's edge and into the trees, taking a long drink.
