biography
Azalea was born in 1857 to her Russian parents in Moscow, Russia. A part of a small Russian Circus, the family was extremely close knit. She was born on New Years Day, only moments after the New Year. Her religious grandmother took this birth to be an extremely good omen, and spoiled her newborn granddaughter rotten. When Azalea's parents died a few months later, her grandmother decided that it was time to move on and took her little granddaughter with her to America. Her grandmother found work in a new circus, as a member of the freak show. She raised Azalea from a tiny baby to a little girl, all while performing on the side for money to support themselves.
Thus, Azalea grew up with a circus family, guided by her grandmother and the various other members of the circus who'd taken a liking to the little baby. As she grew up into a toddler, she started to show more interest in performing along with all of the other freakshows in the circus. However, as far as everyone could tell, she didn't have any skills, and there was nothing to set her apart of label her as a freak. That quickly changed when she was about five, and she shifted into a tiger for the very first time. It was one of her most painful experiences that she'd ever gone though, but she got through her first full moon after her grandmother locked her up to keep her from biting anyone.
Soon after, everyone started to call her the tiger girl, rather confused about how she had turned into a tiger. She wasn't too bothered about the whispers though, because soon enough, her grandmother revealed that she too could turn into a tiger. The ringleader of the circus was ecstatic about the find, and grouped the two of them together into one act. The act ended abruptly when Azalea was ten and her grandmother passed away from tuberculosis. Unfortunately for her, she was forced to continue the act on her own, against her will, until a massive fire broke out during a show. The fire killed the ringleader, essentially freeing the other members of the circus from their secret prisons.
Azalea went to work in Ringling Brothers when she was eleven, working with the animals and cleaning up after them. She enjoyed the work, even though she was small and fragile. She hid her werecat self for quite a few years until one of the ringleaders saw her shift one night. She only barely refrained from killing him, having grown incredibly terrified of being found out. He urged her that he wouldn't say anything about it, and he kept his word. However, he started to get her to work more with the animals, training the big cats in particular, which seemed to be the perfect place for her. By the age of eighteen, she was the talk of the circus. She was the woman who'd tamed the beasts without using any sort of force. The highlight of her portion of the show was her riding around on the backs of the big cats that she'd tamed, all while soaking up the affection and love from the crowds.
By her late twenties, it was clear that Azalea wasn't aging any longer. She revealed to the entire company what she was, and they all kept her secret quite happily. They stopped at nothing to protect her from prying eyes, even as they slowly withered away and she remained the same. She remained in the Barnum and Bailey circus for most of her life, always in charge of the lions and tigers. She even worked with a few bears, who were more than happy to comply with her commands. To the humans, she was a simple tamer. A kind one who the animals didn't have to fear.
In 1937 Azalea helped one of the tightrope walkers give birth to a child. A little girl named Dahlia. The girls mother didn't survive, and Azalea understood exactly why and knew exactly what Dahlia was. Her first instinct was to kill the girl, but she never found the heart to harm the child. In fact, she became infatuated with the girl from the very beginning, and constantly spoiled her throughout the girls early years. Azalea was always there, pampering the young woman with gifts of jewelry and gorgeous dresses that Azalea had made herself. She made quite a few of Dahlia's performance outfits, and doted over her like a mother would. When a fire broke out in the big top that killed over 100 people, Dahlia left the Circus. Azalea followed soon behind, going to wander the world on her own.
Over the years, Azalea found quite a bit of interest in the various cultures around the world and spent a lot of time learning various languages, having only learned her native tongue, Russian, and English from her grandmother. Up until now, she's learned at least 15 different languages including, Spanish, French, German, Russian, English, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Finnish, and Dutch. Along with her interest in various cultures, she also took an interest in their dress and the designs they wore. In 1999, she started her own fashion design business, and quickly rose up the ranks to become a very well known designer.
Currently, she lives in NYC, running her own fashion boutique and modeling firm.
