Sticks & Stones Why don't they understand that we are all the same and we all feel lost sometimes? Alice started her day off pretty nicely. She woke up at seven, showered and got dressed for work. She left at eight and stopped by a nearby coffee shop. She got an English muffin and mocha frappucino which she devoured there. At exactly nine on the dot, she was clocking into her favorite bookstore that she had been working at all summer. The day started off slow, but that wasn't really unusual for the morning shifts. She spent the majority of the first half of her shift straightening up. By noon everything started picking up and Alice was rooted to her cash register, scanning books and other items that the store sold.
This was how her day went until her shift ended at three. She didn't leave immediately, however. Instead, she bought her favorite author's newest addition to one of her book series and new book light and bookmark to go along with it. It was on her way out, that everything went downhill. On her way to her car, she ran into a small group of teens. At first, she didn't pay much attention, but then she recognized one of them.
Miranda Radtke had once been one of her close friends. When supernaturals were outed and Miranda found out Alice was one, she turned on her. In the blink of an Miranda had gone from sweet and kind to a vicious witch. Now they were face to face with each other. Alice didn't know the group she was with, but she knew Miranda was strictly the queen bee of the mean girl crowds nowadays. True to form, Miranda got nasty the second Alice registered on her radar. By the end, Alice was in tears and sobbing in her car.
It was an hour later that she was able to drive, but she didn't go home. Instead, she went around to the park and stuffed her clothes in the bookbag she always carried so she could shift into her favorite animal form once out of sight of prying eyes. In a short time, she went from her human form to her sand cat form and hid in one of the many little dens she had found away from most people. She chose her favorite spot inside a large tree and fell asleep. She wasn't worried. Those who knew her best and cared about her knew most of her hideouts. If they wanted to find her, it really wouldn't be difficult.

[nospaces] [attr="class","circle3"] WORDS: 401[break] TAG(S): @alice[break] OUTFIT[break] NOTES: Here comes the best friend to save the day! YOU MAKE EVERYTHING OKAY OKAY OKAY
Kiara had just gotten out of the schools theatre. With only a few weeks until school started up again, and it being her senior year, the young woman hadn't wanted to miss the auditions for this seasons performance. What was it this year, you ask? The Little Mermaid. What role was Kiara gunning for? Ariel, of course. She had the red hair and the perfect shade of blue-green eyes. She'd been in every play since she started high school, so she would be damned if she didn't get to play in this one. With the auditions over, Kiara had stopped off at Alice's house, knowing that she should have been home from work by now. It's was a weekly ritual, after all. The two were almost in separable in most cases.[break][break]
Sadly for her, she was met by Alice's uncle, who told her that she hadn't gotten home yet. The fact struck her as odd, and she left the Gale household, giving Norman a small kiss on his cheek as a friendly goodbye, before running back down to her car. She got in, and started driving toward one of the first places she knew to check for her best friend. Something had to have happened because Alice was usually quite punctual. Thankfully, the first place that she looked was the place that she spotted her friend's car. She parked on the side of the road and started down the path that lead away from the crowds of children and parents, her eyes scanning the area to make sure no one was following her.[break][break]
It wasn't difficult to spot the tree she knew that Aly would be in, and she didn't give a single care as she crawled up the trunk of the tree in her skirt, having dropped her book bag against the side of the tree. She pulled herself up to a branch almost level with the small hole in the tree, peering inside. Kiara smiled at the sight, reaching her hand into the hole and running her fingers along the top of her best friends head, knowing the sand cat form rather well at this point. "Aly? What's got you up here now?" she cooed softly at her friend, leaning her head against the opening of the small den. "Come out and let's talk," she coaxed, playing lightly with one of Alice's ears, a gentle smile on her features.

Sticks & Stones Why don't they understand that we are all the same and we all feel lost sometimes? Aly didn't wake up until she felt the fingers graze her head. Her eyes opened and she yawned before she looked at her friend and listened to her speak. Immediately, she remembered what sent her into hiding and her ears folded back. Still, she nodded and scaled down the tree to Kiara's feet. Once on the ground, she shifted back. As shy as the seventeen year-old girl was, modesty wasn't one of her issues. Then again, living in a house where the occupants shifted into animals on a monthly basis, getting caught naked was almost commonplace.
She was considerate, however, and didn't waste time changing. In a quick and fluid motion she had her day's outfit out of her backpack and was back in her black ripped jeans, Paris Eiffel Tower shirt. She slipped on her black flats and then her bracelets were back around her wrists with the Hunger Games stack hiding her birthmark from prying eyes since it was how people could tell who she was when she was in animal form. She looked at Kiara for moment and then sat down on the ground with a frown. She looked down for a moment before she finally spoke.
"I ran into Miranda outside the shop, as I was headed for my car," she admitted, looking up at her friend again. "She called me a freak. Among other things."
Alice was really the fragile one in her family, easily insulted and easily hurt. That didn't mean she was a pushover by any means. She could stand up for herself. With her family and Kiara, she could be just as demanding and formidable as the rest of her family, but they never did or said anything to her with the intent to hurt her. Freak was one of those things that really hurt her. Miranda knew the buttons to push and she pushed with malicious intensity. The worst part of the whole thing was that she used to count the girl with her family just as she had with Kiara. That was the reason it hit so hard.

| The red-headed teenager frowned when Alice folded her ears back, and she bit her lip, trailing her fingers gently against the soft fur on her head a few more times before removing her hand and stepping back slightly. She gave Alice enough space to crawl down from the tree, not exactly looking away when Alice shifted back into her human form. Kiara had been around Alice's entire family for a long, long time. Nudity with them didn't bother her anymore, not when at least one of them was in animal form at any one time. She was more than used to one of them popping back and forth from human to animal. In fact, to Kiara, it was one of the most natural and beautiful things that she ever witnessed.
Kiara just focused on shielding Alice from view just in case anyone saw them, though she knew that no one came to this part of the park. That was probably why Alice chose it, after all. No one to snoop and pry. As soon as Alice was completely dressed, Kiara threw her arms around her friend and pulled her close to her, giving a small hum in an attempt to comfort her friend. She listened quietly when Alice spoke, her body going tense at the mention of Miranda and what she'd done.
A twinge of anger flushed through her, though it felt stronger than it usually did. That was one thing that was really scaring Kiara as of late. Things got to her, and when they did, she was inexplicably angry, often times for no reason. To Alice she probably seemed like she was constantly moody and inconsolable. Even Kiara couldn't explain why she'd been feeling that way. But this, this set a fire inside of her and she let out a slow, uneven breath.
"I swear I'm going to break her nose one of these days," Kiara said with a slight huff, doing her best to reign in her temper. "I'm amazed at how fast she's gone from best friend to raging bitch," she muttered, pulling back slightly to look down at Alice with an amused expression. "You know, I think Izzy would just jump at the change to talk to Miranda's parents. Or Grandma Jez. Have you thought about asking one of them to step in? It's not really healthy to hold onto your own insecurities just because someone who used to be our friend decides to be a closed minded asshole."
She didn't know how else to put it, so she decided to be blunt with her friend. Her bluntness had gotten her into trouble a few times, but she was sure that by now Alice understood that's just how Kiara was. She didn't hold things back and she was as frank as she could possibly be when it came to things like this. That, and she really had no filter. "For now, though, we could always go and pig out on frozen yogurt," Kiara said with a grin, blue eyes bright and playful. |

Sticks & Stones Why don't they understand that we are all the same and we all feel lost sometimes? "I swear I'm going to break her nose one of these days. I'm amazed at how fast she's gone from best friend to raging bitch,"
Alice listened to her friend rant and sighed. She was used to it, but sometimes it was unnerving. Alice didn't like confrontation so anger tended to make her uncomfortable. Still, she let Kiara go on her tirade.
"You know, I think Izzy would just jump at the change to talk to Miranda's parents. Or Grandma Jez. Have you thought about asking one of them to step in? It's not really healthy to hold onto your own insecurities just because someone who used to be our friend decides to be a closed minded asshole."
Her eyes widened at that bit and she almost choked. Getting any member of her family involved in any part of this did not sit well with her at all. Her and mother and grandma would be out to make some heads roll. Her sister was along with them. Her uncles and cousin would probably be out for an even bloodier outcome. It was a scary and very unpleasant thought. At least, it was in Alice's opinion.
"And risk a bloodbath ocurring?" she asked with a snort. "I don't plan on telling them any of this."
She gave her friend a stern look as way to tell her that she wasn't to breathe a word of it either. She wanted to keep her family out of it. They didn't need to know. It was only words. They hurt but she would survive it.
"For now, though, we could always go and pig out on frozen yogurt,"
She grinned at that and nodded.
"That sounds great," she said. "I could definitely use some "
