biography
Bastet, as she would later be known as, was born to two commoners in Lower Egypt. Her father was a carpenter while her mother was a healer and sold special ointments. Though the family was poor they still were able to make ends meet and despite the circumstances were quite happy. However that would not last long. Due to some gambling debts from her father the family was arrested and sold as slaves, Bastet never saw her parents again. Bastet wasn't in slavery long before she was taken in by the priestesses of the temple of Mafdet, the feline goddess of protection, justice and execution, and was taught their ways. Bastet grew to be a devoted follower and eventually the high priestess. She held the position with an iron fist until shortly after her twenty-sixth birthday when the innocent priestess was used as a sacrifice along with many others after a raid of her temple took place. As much as Bastet fought back her efforts were fruitless and was executed.
Bastet spent five Earth years in the Underworld but it felt like an eternity to her. Desperate to get out she eventually made a deal with Isis to return to the human world but only under one condition, she was to be given the responsibility of protecting the Kings of Egypt until the day she died and was cursed to do so as the animal Egyptians both feared and respected, the cat. Bastet accepted and returned to the human world as a newly born Werecat. Through out her years she did as she was told and protected the Pharaoh's, eventually her name became legend and she was revered as a goddess, replacing the previous feline goddess, Mafdet. During her reign as a goddess the city of Bubastis, now Tell Basta, was created as the center of the deity.
Eventually Bastet was assigned a lesser role in Egyptian religion as more deities were surfacing but she still kept her title, her image changing from a powerful lioness to a domestic cat but her true form remained. When the age of the Pharaoh's died as the Greeks began to take over Bastet's original purpose was complete. Once Egypt was taken over by the Greek's Bastet left Egypt. She traveled all over Europe, not settling in one place longer than a few months until she reached France in 1432. It was there that Bastet met her first love. Known as Anaïs at the time Bastet met a French poet and instantly fell in love. She remained there with him for several years before revealing her true identity and shortly after he asked to be turned into a Were. Soon after the deed was done however the two were attacked by a group of hunters and Bastet's love was killed and eventually she was driven out of France.
After that Bastet returned to traveling and along with a group of Spanish conquistadors sailed to America in the 16th century. There she became more involved in the affairs of man and even partook in some important historical events including wars. Bastet traveled to every state as it was formed, some of her favorites being Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Louisiana and California, but wouldn't settle for longer than a few months until she reached Chicago in 1919. Once again Bastet fell in love but this time her love was dangerous. At the time the city was riddled with organized crime and Bastet was right in the middle of it. Though for a time the idea of being the girlfriend of a well known mobster sounded exciting but as time went on Bastet's interest started to fade. Tired of the senseless killing and the reminder of men abusing their power she killed the mobster boss along with his closest followers and made it look like a gang hit. In the 1930's Bastet went back to Europe and decided to revisit the place she once called home, France.
Even during the war Bastet lived happily in France until the late 60's and returned to America just in time for Woodstock. Bastet remained in New York, traveling every few years, mostly to tropical islands, and eventually enrolled into law school. After graduating Bastet, now known as Naomi Beaumont, taking her first loves last name, worked a number of years at a law firm in New York before she switched to a career she loved, Archeology, and was offered a job in Las Vegas.
