[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] REAL GODS REQUIRE BLOOD [attr="class","next"]The night was pulsing with activity. Then again, it was Las Vegas. The city of sin was always pulsing and alive - even when it didn't seem like it was. No, when nothing could be seen then the shadows hid it. That was where a particularly angry wolf preferred to call home. Granted, he could be quite charming if he applied himself, especially when there was money to be made. Tonight was the exception to the usual routine, however.
While Cailean Duke loved to work and was usually conning poor saps out of their money or just straight up taking it, he couldn't very much do that when he was on someones radar. He wasn't the paranoid sort. He knew if someone was tailing him and could usually figure out the reason behind it. It really wasn't all that difficult. Someone standing in front of a store, staring through the wind but not moving to the next spot, wasn't window shopping. They were attempting - key word there, ladies and gents - to be discreet while watching you through reflexion.
That was especially the case when they were there on every freaking street you went for the last week. That and they didn't even try to hide their face or their scent from him. It was the same person, and Cailean knew he was being tagged. So tonight was the night he decided to snuff him out. It was time to force him to screw up and drop the act. Cai had every intention to make sure the idiot left him alone permanently. So he left his usual haunts and headed for an area much more secluded and open. Somewhere he could fight without risking an ambush was always a plus.
He started off into an alley at a slow pace and gradually increased the pace until he was running at a steady human pace. That was until he reached his destination. It was dead end lot of land with a giant wall and a building to his right. He leapt up onto the wall with the intention of getting on top of the building. He didn't get that far, however. He was grabbed by the ankle and pulled down to the ground. His face hit the pavement so hard he heard his nose break. Before he could react he felt the telltale, acidic sting of a silver blade across his side.
Everything went black as his anger erupted inside him and boiled over like lava. In the matter of minutes he went from human to the very pissed off werewolf standing in front of his attacker. The man was human and even if he was a hunter, he was no match for Cailean. He ripped the man apart in a minute, but ended up getting stabbed once more in the gut during the scuffle so by the time Cai was back to his human form, he was more exhausted than he normally would have been.
He stumbled back before managing to focus long enough to look the man he just killed. He was torn and ripped from the waist up, but Cai found with mild amusement that the jeans were salvageable and so was the shirt. Since his clothes were destroyed during his shift, Cai needed something to wear until he got home. He stripped the man and donned the clothes before disposing of the body. Only then did he allow himself a moment to rest and catalog his injuries.
That was only long enough for him to muster the rest of his energy to start the short distance home. Not that he thought he would actually make it. He wasn't healing fast enough, and on top of the bleeding, he was suffering from the after affects of turning by rage. Which was basically a fancy way of saying his adrenaline ate all the energy he had and he was dropping fast. Still, he was stubborn and refused to give in. Not even halfway there, however, it became clear that he was losing too much steam too fast. [break][break] The petite feline glided down the street with purpose. Though it was technically her night off she still had managed to get coaxed into doing some last minute work errands for the museum. The errand was meant to be quick and easy but thanks to one of the patrons it was becoming long and tedious. She held a small envelope in the palm of her hand within her pants pocket and stepped in front of a door, her hand grasping the brass handle and gave it a pull towards her but it didn’t open. She kept trying but it was locked. She cursed to herself and looked around but only strangers passed by; they knew nothing of her purpose for being here. Sadly for her if there was no answer after the first few minutes of banging on the door she figured her luck wouldn’t change within the next few minutes and decided to check the back door’s security before giving up completely. [break][break] As she made her way around to the back she was overwhelmed with the feeling that something wasn’t right. Upon checking the back door and finding it locked too she assumed that was the source of her gut feeling but with some thought she knew that wasn’t it. Her eyes scanned the area, her breath held, and her ears listening into her surroundings. She was alone, she knew that. Her sense of smell pushed her further away from the door and deeper into the back alley where she eventually came across a large, open area. The smell of paint from the graffiti splattered across the walls and blood filled her nostril with a sharp sting – it almost made her nauseas. Like a curious cat she followed her nose once again, her hands out at her sides as if she needed the balance to stay quiet. When her eyes saw a pool of blood her nostrils flared once more. It smelled human with a mix of wolf and it looked fresh. Naomi looked around for a trail and followed it until it stopped. The trail went cold and Naomi thought she had lost the lead. [break][break] Until the familiar smell of the wolf she picked up on at the pool of blood struck her nose once again. Her head raised, held high with her nose sticking up in the air as if she was smelling it. There was no denying something had happened. What that was was something she felt she now had no choice but to find out. In one swift movement she pulled her phone out and sent a message to one of the resistance members then stuck her phone back into her pocket and proceeded to follow the scent. After a few minutes of following she saw movement out of the corner of her eye. Without any thought behind it she followed it and walked right up to the injured man from behind. ”Those wounds look pretty nasty.” she said as she started walking beside him. ”Who won? You or the poor sap who decided to pick a fight with you?” she said with a small smirk. [googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] REAL GODS REQUIRE BLOOD [attr="class","next"]Cailean tried to get back to his feet as he heard the footsteps. Of course he automatically thought it was an enemy, but he had no energy to fight. Not enough energy anyway. So Cai tried to stay one step ahead. It wasn't working so well. He could barely walk. So it was no surprise that the person following him actually managed to find him. He stiffened at the unfamiliar voice behind him. The only reason he didn't lash out was because it was a female voice and her words gave him pause.
"Considering I was stabbed and sliced up with a silver dagger," he said with a grimace, "being anything but nasty just seems laughable to me."
He allowed himself to sink down to the ground for two reasons. One, she would most likely already attack him if she was planning it. Two, he really couldn't stand any longer. He rolled his head to look up at her. He could smell her and the fact she didn't smell human. When he forced himself to focus, he could recognize the scent. Werecat by the smell. He sighed and shifted where he sat. At least he stopped bleeding.
”Who won? You or the poor sap who decided to pick a fight with you?"
He glared at her. Normally, he would tell her to shove it, but that required energy he didn't have. So he sighed, closed his eyes as he recalled the fight.
"I won," he said. "Dumped the dumbass into a dumpster after I took his clothes. Come to finish me off?"
He opened his eyes to stare him down steadily. Naomi Beaumont[newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px;[/newclass][newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background: #000;[/newclass]

[break][break] Naomi kept a smile when he thought she was here to kill him, putting on an act as if his wounds didn't bother her or his ill temper towards her; but they did. Naomi wanted nothing more than to help the man up and promise him he would be taken care of just as she done with countless others (most of those people ended up becoming the resistance members she relies on) since her ‘rebirth’ but personal experience, as well as his attitude, told her to keep her distance and that's just what she did despite her urges. She would help him if he wanted it, or deserved it. Her hands rested within her pockets as she attempted to maintain a casual composure, though his bitterness didn’t help her efforts in the slightest. She contemplated showing more empathy for the stranger but by his reaction to her already she didn’t think he wanted it. [break][break] She cleared her throat and looked down at her feet for a moment before he eyes returned back to his gaze, the look of curiosity kicking in. ”No, not really. Is there a reason why I would want to?” she said as her head tilted to the left slightly. ”For a man to turn up dead and you like this…you must have done something to provoke him? Or was it the other way around?” her ears slightly perked like a cat when they heard a noise that caught their attention but her brown eyes stayed firm onto him. While the man spoke she reserved a bit of her hearing for listening in on their surroundings to better prepare if an intruder decided to interrupt. [googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] REAL GODS REQUIRE BLOOD [attr="class","next"]”No, not really. Is there a reason why I would want to?”
Cailean looked at her with narrowed eyes. He was naturally suspicious of everyone. It was literally drilled into him at a very young age. Still, she didn't look like she wanted to do anything but help him. Of course, she had shitty luck to run into the likes of him. He wasn't the warm and fuzzy sort of person. He more likely to bite the hand that fed him and run for the hills. It was his way. Nothing against the lady in front of him.
"That's the million dollar question," he grumbled. "Most people don't need a reason to pick on the weakened."
In his experience, that was the truth more than it wasn't. Heck, his own father made his mission to prove that to him. Only five, Cailean was climbing a tree and fell. He made the mistake of crying to the bastard who raised him. It didn't matter that his arm was clearly broken or that he was just five and in excruciating pain. No, Cailean got his ass beat for shedding tears, and Ulric wasn't gentle. By the end of it, he had welts all over his back and his other arm ended up broken. He spent his healing period listening to his father insult him and point out the ways he was a failure.
Ulric Duke was a colorful man with no room for compromisation, especially from his children. It was always his way or take the severe repercussions. The old man had no room in his heart for love and compassion. It was a miracle that Cailean hadn't ended up just like the brute. Honestly, he carried that same brutality. He was capable of it, but he was also capable of compassion and kindness. He had morals, a code of ethics that he lived by. That didn't come from his father. No, the credit went to Cai's little sister. Audrey was the only reason he had any semblance of a good side. He closed his eyes against the pain that always came with thinking of her.
”For a man to turn up dead and you like this…you must have done something to provoke him? Or was it the other way around?”
Cai opened his eyes and cut her a nasty glare. Why did everyone think he was the cause? Granted, he wasn't a nice guy. He attacked before anyone could do the same. It was what put him in this situation in the first place.
"I breathed his air," he stated.
Sarcasm was thick in his tone, but he wasn't exaggerating. He hadn't provoked him. At least, he didn't remember doing so. Then again, he was a thief. He pissed off a lot of people, but he never met the guy before. He rarely forgot a face and his would have stuck out. The guy had a pretty distinguishing scar that ran down the left side of his face. It was hard to miss let alone forget. Naomi Beaumont[newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px;[/newclass][newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background: #000;[/newclass]

[break][break] Throughout her long life Naomi has met all kinds of people from different walks of life and different experiences. Within a few minutes Naomi could gauge just exactly what kind of person this man was and so far it wasn't anything she hadn't already dealt with before. He was the kind to take help from no one, stubborn to the end with no reasoning strong enough to change his ways. Then again...he was a man. When he commented on most people not needing a reason to pick on others Naomi silently disagreed. She felt everyone had a reason for their actions whether they were clear or not. No one did something for absolutely nothing, it just wasn't in the human nature. There must have been a reason behind the attack and she was determined to find out. She kept silent though, feeling her commentary would just result in another glare so she remained quiet on the subject. [break][break] "I breathed his air," Despite his sarcastic tone Naomi couldn't help but find amusement out of it. She fought to contain her smile but in the end she was grinning from ear to ear. Though her initial perception of him wasn't entirely positive she had to admit he was pretty funny. Even if it wasn't intentional. She admired his ill attempt at humor despite his injuries so she convinced herself to stick around a bit longer and try to coax him into accepting her help, though so far her chances seemed slim. [break][break] "Well I guess we couldn't have that now could we? I know a shop right down the street that sells herbs that could help those wounds heal a bit faster. I could take you down there and then maybe after you could fill me in on what happened over a few drinks?" she looked down at him with hopeful eyes and her hand extended out to help him up. If she couldn't win him over by healing him she figured the offer of free booze might do it. [googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] REAL GODS REQUIRE BLOOD [attr="class","next"]Lone wolf took on a whole new meaning where Cai was concerned. He took it to a whole new level. It was nothing against the poor saps that tried to help him. He simply had no clue what to do when that sort of attention was directed to him. It was something he should work on. Audrey made it her mission to help him before she left. Again, he had to think about. He shouldn't be surprised. His traitor of a sister could never leave his thoughts for long. It really sucked most of the time.
The woman was speaking to him again. He glared up at her, ready to tell her exactly where he would like her to shove her so-called offer of help. He stopped himself, however. He could use a few drinks. It wasn't like sobriety had done him any good today anyway. Then again, it never did. It was why he drank regularly. Sighing heavily, he reached up and took her head. He couldn't turn down an offer booze. Besides, he would like to get his wounds healed up faster.
"A few drinks sound good," he said. Naomi Beaumont[newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px;[/newclass][newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background: #000;[/newclass]

[break][break] Naomi smiled when he accepted her offer, gripping his hand firmly as she held pull him up. When he was on his feet she took a step back as to give him some breathing room, not wanting to make him uncomfortable with invading his space. As he stood she managed to finally get a good look at him, and though she tried her best to conceal it, she had to admit he was very easy on the eyes, dirt and all. The dirty clothes and rigid features didn't shy her away from the thought, in fact it made her interest in him grow even more. A small tinge resonated within her chest as the feeling of nervousness hit her. Her palms became sweaty and her left foot started to twitch slightly. She thanked Isis that they were both standing and about to begin their journey down the street and feeling as if it hadn't come soon enough she quickly led him down the alleyway and out into the street. [break][break] ”My name’s Naomi. Would it be okay to ask for yours?” Though it was not her birth name it was the one she favored the most. She tucked her hands in her pockets, something she didn’t usually do except out of nervousness and deterred from making direct eye contact. Not but another minute later they approached a small herb store tucked in between a deli and a phone service company. She stepped inside and held the door open for him to follow and was immediately welcomed by a gust of old air and the smell of various herbs that if inhaled long enough would eventually numb your senses. While she waited to be greeted she searched through the shelves, picking out two before walking to the counter. [googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] REAL GODS REQUIRE BLOOD [attr="class","next"]Cai straightened and pressed a hand to the nasty stab wound. It was healing, which was a good thing. It was a little slower than he preferred but he couldnt do anything about that. He watched the woman curiously as she stepped away from him. It didn't appear to be a fear response. It was definitely an oddity, almost as if she was making a conscious effort not to invade his comfort zone. It was honestly that courtesy that made him almost respect the woman. Almost. He was a hard shell to crack.
He watched her as she hurriedly led them out of the alley. Perhaps she was a little unsettled with him. She seemed to be fighting a bit of nerves but he let it go, figuring it was due to his less than friendly attitude. He knew he was a prick. It really wasn't a secret. She was probably just trying to avoid a nuclear explosion. Everyone else did.
"Umm, yeah, no, it's fine," he said when she asked about his name. "Name's Cailean. You can call me Cai."
He actually preferred Cai to Cailean but it didn't entirely matter to him. She wasn't too bad for a cat. He followed her into the shop and looked around the place. [break][break] It wasn't long after she had approached the counter that a small, Chinese woman with hair as white as fresh fallen snow stepped from behind the back. Her face was round and covered in wrinkles, red and flustered, probably from any medicine she took. Naomi was greeted with a warm smile and the presence of the Original seemed to bring out the youth in the older woman as she almost seemed to defy her body’s limits when moving towards Naomi at a quickened speed and pull her into a hug. With Naomi the woman could only hug her waist but Naomi did the best she could in returning the sentiment. When the woman pulled away she began ranting in her foreign language and proceeded behind the counter, completely unaware that Naomi wasn’t alone. [break][break] ”They alive?” The woman finally asked in broken English. ”What?” ”They alive?” the woman repeated. ”They’re still managing but yeah they’re still here. All thanks to you of course.” Naomi responded with a smile. ”I told you! Come to Zhi and I make everything well again. Zhi's special mix work every time.” The older woman noticed the two small jars Naomi had set on the counter. ”This it?” For a brief moment Naomi had forgotten the real reason she was here but the smell of dog that brushed against her nose reminded her Cai was still here. Embarrassed she looked back at Cai with pink cheeks, though you couldn’t tell against her olive skin. ”No, actually I need more help. If we’re not imposing…” Naomi didn’t even have time to finish her sentence before the woman began waving her hand. ”No no. You good to me, keep me in business. Anytime.” The woman nodded before looking in Cai’s direction. ”You! Come here!” she said to him, waving for him to come. ”Show me.” she said, referring to his wounds. [googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] REAL GODS REQUIRE BLOOD [attr="class","next"]Cai looked around him and took to walking around, which only irritated him. There was nothing worth stealing here that he could see. Then again, he probably shouldn't even consider it since the lady cat was going out of her way to help him and was obviously friends with the owner – a fact he picked up on as he eavesdropped on the pair. Yeah they were definitely all buddy buddy. It would be poor taste to fuck Naomi over. The thought made him scoff. Honestly if his father was still around, he knew the old man would put him through a wall for such thoughts. Whatever, there was nothing that screamed money here. The idea of stealing anything was laughable. That didn't stop him from picking up an object off the shelf to study it.
Cai jumped slightly and set the object down before spinning around to face the old lady that just bellowed at him. He studied her closely for a minute and suppressed the urge to shudder. Old ladies had that vibe about them that said they knew when you were up to know good and with the woman's sharp gaze locked on him, he was certain that she was the sort that wouldn't take his bullshit if he tried anything. Like running for his life. He scratched the back of his neck and walked over to the woman who barked yet another order at him.
He looked at Naomi for a second before he lifted his shirt to show off his wound. Whether it was respect or straight up fear of the old ladies wrath, Cai listened and obeyed despite the fact it wasn't in his nature to do so. Honestly, most people dumb enough to order him around ended up thinking twice before doing it again. That was how he preferred it. With aggressive old ladies, he seemed to lose his funk. [break][break] When Naomi had first met the woman she was thrown off guard as well so she understood the hesitance he showed when showing off his wounds. When he lifted his shirt she was at first stunned by the damage done but was more distracted by the toned muscles that made up his abdomen. The feline used up all of her strength to not reach out and touch it and thankfully her inappropriate thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the older woman's voice. "Nasty cut. You must have pissed someone off real bad." The older woman pulled away from Cai to retreat into her back room. "I have just the thing." She said before leaving the pair alone once more. [break][break] Since their initial meeting not much has changed but yet unlike before Naomi suddenly felt nervous when left to her own thoughts; most of them about him. Naomi had never been big on wolves but throughout the centuries she has learned love was not picky, so why should she be? Needless to say she didn't plan on jumping into a relationship anytime soon but he was still heavenly to look at. Finally the older woman returned with a mixture in her hands and Naomi let out a mental sigh of relief. "Drink this." The older woman said as she held out a glass with a vile, green-ish looking substance that smelled like a mix of citrus and grass, though the contents were much more complex than that. "Drink all of it. Waste nothing." Naomi's face cringed from the sight, not thinking that Cai could easily see but when the older woman insisted she looked over at him with a look of reassurance. "It's perfectly safe I promise. Tastes horrible though but it will work almost instantly. She's used it on me several times. The beer after this will take the taste right out." She promised. [googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] REAL GODS REQUIRE BLOOD [attr="class","next"]Cailean looked at the old crone as she barked in such a manner he was far from used to. The only people whoever talked to him like that were his father and sister. He never before allowed anyone else so much as try. The lady was lucky he had a ways to go before he was back to 100% and able to bark back. His were always followed with a sharp bite. Usually, he didn't even care about the other person's well-being. He watched the woman leave and finally let his body lean against the table beside him as he dropped his shirt to cover the wound. He closed his eyes for a moment before he was once again being barked at. His eyes snapped open and fell to the concoction. He took it, but he didn't immediately drink it. Instead he sniffed at it suspiciously and grimaced.
His eyes snapped to Naomi as she spoke to him for the first time since they got there. He wasn't sure he believed her. Then again, if she wanted to kill him why go to all this trouble? He was pretty much a sitting duck in the alley. There really was no reason for him to be bitching. No one would care if he died. He didn't even care if he died. He was just too stubborn to give his enemies the satisfaction. With that thought in his head, he downed the concoction and almost choked on it. She hadn't been lying about one thing. It was disgusting.
“What is that?” he shot between a couple coughs which only made his side protest from the rapid movement. [newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px;[/newclass][newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background: #000;[/newclass] Naomi Beaumont

[break][break] "Now if I told you that, then I'd have to kill you. Can't have everyone learning my secrets." The older woman said and Naomi nervously laughed. "She's just messing with you." Naomi tried to assure Cai there was nothing to worry about and to prevent an awkward or uncomfortable situation. "No, I wasn't." The woman said in a serious tone. Apparently she didn't share Naomi's concerns and knew now it was time to go. Cai didn't seem like the joking type, or the possibly even able to accept it without taking it to heart. If she had any plan to get to know him better, she knew from this point forward she would have to tred carefully. The older woman then took the glass that once held the green liquid and set it under the counter. "It'll take at least an hour for it to kick in, but when it does you'll feel it." Naomi said to Cai before turning back to the woman, bowing her head in respect. "I'll ring these up."[break][break] After Naomi's items were paid for and placed into a gift bag, she lead Cai back out onto the crowded streets and turned to him. "I'm really sorry about that back there. She really was kidding..." I hope. She thought. "My offer for free drinks still stands. That's if you still want it. I'm sure after drinking that stuff you'll take just about anything to get the after taste out of your mouth. My first time drinking it, the only thing strong enough to get the taste out of my mouth was hot sauce. And even then I still had a hint of it left for days." Suddenly she found herself rambling and without warning felt her cheeks turn warm. "T-there is a bar just up the block." She pointed before slowly making her way towards that direction with the hope he would willingly follow. [googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] REAL GODS REQUIRE BLOOD [attr="class","next"]Cai raised an eyebrow at her comment about the old lady just joking around. He didn't know the lady, but most people didn't joke with him, especially during the first meeting. Cai didn't take it too personally. He carried that aura around him that immediately put others on the defensive. He was a predator and it showed in him even if he was too injured or too tired to try. He wasn't a likeable guy. He came to terms with that a long time ago. Heck, his mother left him. His father hated him to the point abuse was an hourly expectancy in his childhood. His sister chose their dead beat mother over him. Yeah, he was a loner in every single way. He was okay with that. He didn't really have much of a sense of humor but he wasn't rabid. He didn't attack people just for what they said to him. Okay, he didn't attack strangers for what they said to him. There was nothing stopping him from attacking assholes he knew and hated in equal measure.
He cautiously pressed a hand to his side, not quite touching the wound but testing the pain level as the cat told him how long it should take for the foul concoction to kick in. That wasn't too bad. It was a great deal better than the amount of healing time he had to expect as a child. Before his first turn, he could be on sorry ass for weeks. After his first turn, it dwindle down to days only because his healing factor had amped up with the whole werewolf thing. His father hadn't gotten nicer when Cai came into his powers. He got meaner if anything. There was one good thing that the old man had done for him, though. Cai knew how to function around the pain like a pro. So the little wound in his side was nothing more than an irritation.
“People don't usually joke with me,” he said. “They tend to mean what they say, but I'll take your word for it since you clearly know her.”
He was being honest and he was ready to leave her there up until she began speaking again. He honestly forgot about the offer of drinks. Injuries, quips and threats were things he was used. Someone offering booze and company was something entirely new. He wasn't entirely sure what to do with it, but he found himself nodding partly just because he wanted booze and partly because she looked like she was drowning in nerves for the offer.
“Yeah, lead the way,” he said. “I could always use a drink.” [newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px;[/newclass][newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background: #000;[/newclass] Naomi Beaumont
