biography
Cezar and Andreia's relationship was arranged even before Andreia was born, the Chief of what is now known as the Atikum tribe of Brazil. After they married, Andreia gave birth to Zeze. Five years later came the twins, Rafael followed by Natália. Lia grew up a mama's girl, and never got along with Cezar, who was a strict man with no room for arguments. Lia was always getting into trouble because she was swimming when she wasn't supposed to or rough housing with her brothers. It drove Cezar crazier the older she got. So when his son, Rafael, accidentally killed Andreia while hunting, Cezar decided to use his wife's death as way to teach his daughter a lesson. He accused her for her mother's death, and used both of her brother's as witnesses against her. It was enough to grant Cezar the ability to curse her, thus turning her into the first werecat of the jaguar species and then was promptly exiled from the tribe.
Only twenty-six, Lia was left utterly alone. Even her twin shunned her with the rest of them, and they had been very close before the accident. She lived on the outskirts of the village, and would steal food and other things for her survival. On her first full moon, her turn was agonizing and she woke the next morning miles from the village with no memory of how she got there. She came across another village later that night. Starving and with no clothes or shelter to speak, they let her in with open arms. As the next full moon neared she told the leaders of her curse and how she got it.
Instead of kicking her out, they decided to help her. For the full moon, they trapped her inside a nearby cave and didn't let her out until morning. As time progressed, she found it was easier to control herself. Eventually, she didn't even need to spend her nights in the cave and was able to roam the forest freely. She would even use her enhanced skills to hunt for them deeper in because food nearby the village was scarce. For decades, she stayed there with tribe and helped them out until the entire village was attacked during one of her turns. She wasn't there to help them and came back to find a gruesome massacre.
It took her five years to find out the culprit was none other than her father and brothers. Spying on her since the day she vanished, Cezar was furious to find that, instead of treating the curse as the punishment it was meant to be, she somehow managed to turn it into a gift. He led the Atikum to attack the tribe who made their mission to help her. Infuriated by her family's cruelty, she killed her father and oldest brother. Rafael ran, and she never tried to find him. She then strategically killed each and every man that participated in the massacre, inadvertently turning a few who she failed to kill.
It was the first and only time she ever lost her temper in such catastrophic manner. For centuries after that, she lived alone and dealt with humans as little as possible. It wasn't out of fear or shineness. She simply was being careful. When the Spanish and Portuguese came to Brazil in the 1500's, she started to reintegrate herself with humans as her curiosity grew. It was then that she made her first intentional turn, a young girl by the name of Rosa. The girl stayed with her but was soon killed by the Spanish. Grief-stricken, Lia retreated back into the rain forest, where she collected semi-precious stones.
For money, she would make jewelry with her stones and sell them in towns and cities, slowly accumulating a small fortune. She met a wealthy man named Martim and eventually married him. He was killed a few years later in an accident, leaving her all his money. After that, she left Brazil to travel South America. By the end of the 1800's, she had reached the United States for the first time. For a few decades, she stayed there travelling from town to town. At one point, she travelled Canada and returned to Brazil for a time. Now she has taken root in New York City.
