CHARACTER CREATION
Welcome to the city once called New York. Following a great and violent uprising that left the city in ruins and the people in despair, a cry for peace was heard. Five Factions were created to preserve that peace- Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. In these Factions, each person was given a place to belong and a virtue to follow:
Abnegation- Selflessness
Amity- Peace
Candor- Honesty
Dauntless- Courage
Erudite- Intellect.
Those who could not belong were deemed Factionless and were cast aside, condemned to live a life of poverty and obscurity.
In their sixteenth year, the youths of the city would participate in what was known as the Choosing Ceremony following a test that would determine what Faction they belonged in. Each youth was allowed to stay with the faction he or she was born in, or defect to another one. While their test results often determined what Faction they could choose, there were those who defied the results and chose of their own accord. To defect meant leaving one's past life and family forever.
Faction Before Blood.
From there, the youths, be they born into the faction or transfers, would go through a month-long initiation process. Those that passed would go on to be given a job they would perform for the rest of their life. Those who failed would become Factionless.
For decades, this system has worked smoothly and the peace has been preserved. But like all good things, the peace is potentially coming to an end. There are those among the Factions rumored to be conspiring to take over the government, currently ran by Abnegation. Furthermore, there is the rising paranoia regarding those rare individuals who's test results could not place them in a single Faction, therefore making them unable to be fully controlled through categorization. These individuals are known as... Divergent. Considered a danger to what is left of the peace, they themselves are now in danger of discovery... and following that... extermination.
While this site plot reflects that of the Divergent Book Series, the AU setting in a new city allows for people to make fresh new characters and therefore tell fresh new stories revolving around the base plot. It is open to your creativity and to the opportunity for this version of the Divergent story to go in interesting new directions!
