[attr="class","ishy-title"]Djinn "Dark Genie"
[attr="class","ishy-content"]
Said to be created from fire the exact origin of the Djinn is centered around the Middle East but their creation was beyond the portal. Despite the ability to trap these creatures and their ability to grant wishes they were not created to serve others but to bring mayhem to the world. They are one of the few species to have been in the human realm long before the portal in America was opened.
They can take on any form they choose - animal or human - and can be of any size, ranging from a small pebble to a three story house. They have two forms - their genie form and their humanoid form - the latter simply being used as a means to blend in. Their genie forms vary in color and markings depending on the type of genie, their location, and their power.
Most of them are hostile, although some can be friendly or neutral. Like humans they have free will and can choose to deny a wish by anyone other than their master. It is possible for magicians or wise men and women to gain power over a Djinn and use it to perform amazing and magical tasks. But be wary, for even a friendly Djinn is unpredictable, and certainly anyone who breaks an agreement with a Djinn will strongly regret it. Often Djinn take naughty pleasure in punishing people for wronging them, even unintentionally. Djinn are also generally believed responsible for illness and mishaps.
Genie's are immortal. They do not age nor do they die easily. However it is possible to kill one but even with the weakest of genies it's a difficult task to complete. Teleportation, astral projection, fire resistance, superhuman speed - similar to a vampires - and superhuman senses are also a few perks that only grow stronger with age. Genie's of all levels also have the ability to shield themselves from mortal eyes if they wish it, but Magi and Fae can see them without issue. In order to properly use their powers they also are empaths and can also project their thoughts into someone else's mind, but cannot read them. If free a genie still has the ability to obtain wishes and can use them to strengthen their powers as well as use them as a means to heal when their powers are extremely weakened.
Genie's don't have a lot of weaknesses but they are susceptible to magic however the only way to truly be rid of a genie is through banishment or by setting them aflame in the flames that created them. Magicians have trapped Djinn in various ways, one way was imprisoning them in an old brass lamps originally but anything with a seal able opening works. When someone rubs the lamp, or object, three times the Djinn inside will appear and if not already owned by another who hasn't had their wishes granted yet, has the ability to grant three wishes, and obey the one who set it free. If someone was to wish for said genie to be free permanently than the individual will receive extreme consequences, in most cases ending in themselves being turned into genies until released themselves though most people don't know setting a genie free does not change their species but only releases them from contract.
For those who are trapped they must obey they individual who conjures them and grant their wishes. They also can only remain within a small distance from their "home". Genie's who are trapped within a bottle but have no master are able to leave their bottle but must keep it with them at all times. While trapped they are also honor bound to their master and is obligated to protect and guide them if needed. If their master is killed they are set free, but extremely weakened from the severed connection but their free will is returned.
There is such a thing as using too much power and genies are susceptible to becoming weak from overuse, though they will never truly lose their powers unless wished so.
There is no way to be born a gene, only created. The means of creating one is entirely unknown to the human world and all genie's currently in our realm were either cursed by a wish or created from the portal where magic is powerful enough to create such beings and somehow crossed over.
There are five different types of Djinn.
Jinn/Jann: They are the most likely to be trapped and used for their wishes.
Sheytans: Commonly known as the genie devils their powers are more of persuasion than wish making, though they still have the ability to grant wishes. They are responsible for planting malicious suggestions to both humans and Djinn alike.
Afrits/Ifrits: Are the second most powerful and are known for their cunning and stealth. Unlike the Marid's that are able to mingle with others without issue and can either be neutral or malevolent.
Marids: Are the most powerful and are known as the most arrogant and proud, making them the least human-like out of the five. They are the royalty of the Djinn kingdom.
