Evander watched her carefully as she processed what was said and it wasn't until the extremely expensive bottle started to fall that he snapped his attention away from her. He saw her catch it and didn't even blink once, not really caring what that meant, as long as the bottle wasn't gone, mostly because it would be a shame to waste booze worth that much. He snapped his attention back to her again and chuckled awkwardly.
He half wished he hadn't admitted that. She seemed too in shock for his likings and the question put him back into a stark reality where his high school secret was out there. He sighed and nodded, "For most of high school actually... I finally got the nerve to ask senior year after talking myself into it. I almost ran away myself a few times and then when I finally was about to ask that happened... I let it go because clearly you and I weren't meant to happen. Think I drove James crazy with my self pity." he rubbed the back of his neck and leaned against the railing. He folded his arms over his chest and continued "I thought liking you would go away but now you're here... And more importantly not allergic to me..." he trailed off awkwardly.

As excited as she was she couldn't help but feel a bit of sadness creep in. All those years spent alone in her room with nothing but her comics and home made gagets, thinking the love of her life would never think twice about her while he had, in her mind, the time of his life. He was popular and she was not, and as tradition the two didnt mix well. Social events such as prom or school bonfires were avoided mainly for that reason, and no amount of affection seemed to have changed that for either of them. Now he claimed to have held feelings for her all along and though she was the happiest she's ever been she couldn't help but suddenly feel like her entire high school experience was wasted, and she only had herself to blame.
Now feeling guilty she looked down before setting the bottle down on the floor beside their feet. She didn't know how to feel anymore. The wheel of emotions she was feeling all quickly becoming one big blur. The fact she was now a vampire didn't help in the least bit. Controlling her urges was one thing but her emotions was something entirely different. Any emotions before she died were only intensified and now she was faced with a situation that stirred up her most intense feelings. However what hurt the most wasn't her own insecurities or even the fact she had spent 4 years in depression for no reason, but because he had felt like they weren't meant to be. She felt a tinge rezenate within her chest as she suppressed an involuntary growl. Gulping silently to clear the lump in her throat and titled her head to the side slightly in curiosity she leaned against the railing as well with her body turned to him. "And you still like me?" She looked at him with heart shaped eyes desperately hoping for the most positive answer.

Evander couldn't help but laugh softly at the question. It was crazy that she even had to ask. He turned to face we and offered her a smile, "Alex... Of course I still like you. You're the one that got away. Never in my life had I wished I wasn't me in that moment. If I didn't smell like a bird things would have been different between us..." he sighed lightly. He was quite proud of who he was and would never choose to change that but for just a moment he had wished he could. When he saw her walking out of the library, leaving him there dumbfounded at his luck, he wished he was normal. If he had been normal he would have asked her out right then and there and maybe he wouldn't have had to fake happiness any longer.
His smile turned sad then as he reached forward and carefully put a strand of hair back behind her ear. He had many high school regrets, most of them not being true to himself, but one resonated with him now. "I am so sorry that I fed in to the popularity thing–I have this need for attention that goes back to my parents rejection of who I am–but if there ever a thing I would go back and change it would be getting to know you better... And maybe staying away from air ducts and closed in spaces. If things had been different I wouldn't... No, I should never have let you go through high school thinking someone didn't care about you..." he ended his sad thought and turned to look out at the darkness with a frown on his face.

She melted into his touch and felt a shiver run down her spine. The ecstasy it gave her transcended anything blood could ever do for her. His presence alone was subsistence enough and every time he touched her she felt her hunger being satisfied little by little, and every time he pulled away her appetite came back wanting more. She hadn’t expected though, his apology and confession, to bring up such intense and confusing feelings. Her emotions were becoming a ferris wheel of happiness, sadness, guilt, then right back to happiness again only for the cycle to repeat and quite honestly, she didn’t know how much more she could take without vamping out. Unaware her hazel eyes slowly turned to a crimson red she did feel the warm, red liquid that replaced her tears began to well up in the corners of her eyes. Ashamed, she quickly turned away and covered her eyes, the warm feeling in her cheeks and the heaviness in her chest reminded her just how human she still was. ”I’m sorry.” She didn’t want to make him any more uncomfortable than he already seemed and most certainly didn’t want to ruin her second chance at happiness by scaring him away. Quickly she wiped the tears from her eyes as best as she could but a smudge of red remained present under one eye.

Evander frowned when she turned away from him and he fought over what to do next. He didn't know whether to comfort her or leave her alone. In the end he moved her around to end up in front of her again and saw the red smudge. He offered a small smile before he leaned down and swiped his thumb to collect some of the condensation off he bottle at their feet. He moved back up and used it to to clean the smudge left from her crying. "Don't cry, doll. I didn't mean to make you cry..." he muttered before he pulled her close and into a hug and kept her there, mostly for selfish purposes, while he whispered sweet nothings.
He enjoyed having her this close, it was something he wanted to happen years ago. But now was probably better. Now he was more confident about being his nerdy self. Now he didn't care what others thought. Now he could be this close to Alex and not deal with the judgements and glares they would have received in high school. So he pulled away from the hug just enough to put a had under her chin and make her look at him. "Give me a smile, doll. I can't ask if I can finally kiss you if I am making you cry..."

And once again he surprised her. The condensation on his finger from the bottle felt cool against her slightly warmed cheeks, the smudge now gone. For years there was nothing she wanted more than to be held the way he did when he pulled her into his embrace and now that she was actually here it all felt surreal. She rested one side of her head against his chest and closed her eyes, soothed by the sound of his heart beat, her hands rested on his sides as she leaned into him. She memorized the rhythm of his heart beat as she felt it beating through his chest.
In this moment, as strong as her emotions were and with as much trouble she had over her control, the smell of his blood didn’t entice her in the least bit. She was too happy to allow herself to even feel the urge. When he pulled away the empty feeling she had felt for years returned slightly, thankful he didn’t pull away completely but when he lifted her head up she looked up at him with hazel eyes, an outer red trim still present but was already starting to fade. This time, there was no thinking about it and without effort her lips curled into a small smile at the prospect of her dream finally coming true. She would never deny him that, his smile was contagious and always brightened her day so he never even had to ask. ”I’d love that.” she whispered truthfully.

The corner of Evander's lips curled up and soon he was grinning. He wasn't sure how that would work out for him but oh was he glad it did. His heart beat thumped loudly in his chest as he debated how to go about this. He decided simple and sweet but she could be the one to initiate it going any further if she wanted. "I wasn't expecting that. Tonight is full of pleasant surprises." he said softly before he leaned in.
He hadn't even touched her lips yet but his heart felt like it was going to break through his chest cavity any moment now. He could also admit that the red rimmed eyes and the fact that she was a vampire was kind of intimidating but he also wasn't afraid so he swallowed the nervous lump that had formed in his throat and leaned in the rest of the way, connecting their lips softly at first. He was fairly certain that what he was feeling was akin to the 'fireworks' everyone talked about when they kissed someone they really liked. He had never experienced them before so he blew them off as fiction but now he got it. Now he never wanted that feeling to end and his kiss seemed more needy and hungry but that's when he pulled away. Not by much. He was still invading her personal space, being only inches away from her face and his hands practically plastered to her sides. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean... That was intense." he muttered whispered.

Alex wasn’t ready for what was about to happen. She had never kissed anyone before and didn’t particularly know how to. A rush of nervousness overwhelmed her as doubt and insecurity plagued her mind, but the moment their lips touched every bit of it was washed away and replaced with pure bliss. Her eyes were closed but fireworks shaped as hearts lit up her darkened vision. Before this Alex had only seen this kind of love in movies, glamorized to the point it was almost unbelievable. This however was real. Her body fell into his more, pressing her body against his, her fingers lightly gripping his sides as she gave into the kiss completely. The feeling was euphoric and Alex was hooked, so when he pulled away the craving for more became almost too much to bare. Slowly her eyes opened to look into his, the red ring completely gone now, and she leaned her head forward to rest her forehead on his, smiling contently. She felt like there were no words she could use to describe her feelings so instead of speaking she gave into her desires and leaned in for one more kiss when her phone in her clutch went off. With a jolt she pulled away and pulled out her phone, turning the ringer off and set it back in her purse on the table beside them. ”I’m sorry.” she laughed nervously. ”I set an alarm an hour ago in the hopes it would convince Andrei I had to leave early. Won’t be needing it tonight though.” she said with a wide smile and stepped forward again and placed her hands back on their original spot. "Now where were we?"

Evander could have gotten lost in her eyes and he almost did before she leaned into to kiss him again, something he wholeheartedly welcomed but when her phone went off and she jolted away to look at it he ended up with his hands by his sides and frown. However, he quickly smiled again when she explained why it had gotten off and it only grew as she was back in his arms. "Right about here, I think..." he muttered before he leaned in and kissed her deeper than before while still remaining respectful.
He was content until the moment the balcony door opened and the head of one of the bartenders popped out, "Evan? with a groan Evander pulled away from her lips and the bartender started stumbling over his words when he realized what he had walked in on, "Ummm... We uhh... We could use your umm... Help in here. Connor is uhh fidgeting again." he said but without even saying a word Evander waved him off and the guy walked back inside. "I almost forgot I was working tonight..." he said softly before kissing her again. This time it was short and he pulled away with a sigh, "I don't want to go back inside. I want to stay here and kiss you more..." he admitted without shame.

She held back a giggle as she leaned forward into the kiss, finding it hard to not smile. She was beginning to get used to the feeling of kissing and managed to pick up on it quickly. Mid kiss her arms snaked up from his side and wrapped around his neck. Alex could feel his body heat warm her entire being and slowly became numb from pleasure. In that moment she felt like nothing could break her. He made her feel invincible. For a second time their lips parted sooner than she had wanted and for a split second felt herself become enraged at the bartender. He wasn’t around long enough to feel her wrath and Evan’s lips brought her back into a better frame of mind. ”I wish you weren’t.” She let out a sigh and slid her hands back down from his neck to rest on his chest before reluctantly pulling away. ”I guess I better go in too. Andrei is probably wondering where I am by now.” Though she doubted he was. As much as she wanted to whisk him away and leave everyone here she didn’t think that was possible so she came up with something just as good. ”Give me your phone.” she said as she held out her hand and took it once he handed it to her. She put her number in his phone after looking for his own. ”Text me. I carry my phone with me like a Christian does with their bible.” a snicker broke through as she handed him back his phone.

Evander handed her his phone and waited for her to put in her number. He chuckled as he slipped the phone back into his pocket and nodded, "I do as well so you be sure to do the same." he said with a grin. It shifted into a mischievous one and he wrapped his arms around her waist once more as pulled her close again. "I have years of not doing this to make up for so clearly I have to get in as many kisses as I can now." he said casually like it made so much sense and then he kissed her again. Not once or twice but three times and then he pulled away, kissing her forehead lightly before he released her from his grip. "Sorry doll. Couldn't help myself." he said with a wink as he backed up towards the door, wanting to make sure none of the other bartenders had gotten killed or eaten in his absence, granted they probably had it coming. "So you know, I do plan on texting you to set an official date. Now that this has finally happened you're basically stuck with me." he warned in a teasing tone.

Each kiss felt like she was tasting a little bit if heaven and she had never expected it to taste so sweet. A choir sang church songs in her head and hearts floated about like butterflies around a flower. The reality of their departure didn't really hit home until he started to back away but regardless her smile remained as if it was permanently carved. While he began making his way towards the door she remained still like a statue, the only thing moving were her eyes as she watched his every move and then her lips to say her goodbyes. "I wouldn't have it any other way. Night." She said almost hesitsntly, not wanting to ever say good bye to him. She watched him step back inside but had decided to remain outside to catch her barings. She didn't know how to explain her flustered face and overall giggly nature to Andrei nor was she ready to face his clients. Remembering the bottle beside her feet she reached down and grabbed the neck and brought the bottle to her lips. She wouldn't finish the bottle but now it had sentimental value so keeping it was a must. After a minute of reflecting on everything that had happened she grabbed her clutch and with the bottle in hand she made her way back inside. Instead of going back to the bar though she sought out Andrei in the hopes he was ready to leave. Finally it was time to go, and before stepping out the door, she looked over at the bar in the hopes she would see him one more time.

Evander spent the rest of the evening with a large and rather stupid grin on his face. He was longer flirting with customers, much to the dismay of some of them, and his mind was no up in the clouds again. He would probably end up going for a flight as soon as he was done here so he could revel in his victory at last. James was totally going to kill him the next time they hung out too but he didn't care. He had finally got the girl he wanted, she was no longer the one that got away–she was the one her got to kiss and hold tight, as long as he didn't screw that up of course.
Somehow, amidst his day dreaming and doing his job he was pulled back into reality and looked towards the door just in time to connect his eyes with hers and he grinned. Within the same moment he pulled out his phone to send her a message, barely looking at his phone as he did, "Goodnight, doll. I will text you tomorrow about that date." he typed and he clicked send and then winked at her before he went back to work.
