Being back in Las Vegas was sort of weird. It hadn't really changed all that much in six years, but just the fact she was back and had no idea where her brother was living was the weirdest thing is the world to Miss Audrey Duke. hat was the first place she had gone as soon as she had gotten into town a few weeks back. She had gone to her old home that she had shared with Cai and had been met by a kind couple who told her that they had lived there for the past four years, which meant Cai hadn't been there for at least that long if not longer. She thanked them and went on her way, off to the Strip to get a hotel room. She had plenty of cash to stay there as long as she needed, or to even hotel hop if she had to. But there were reasons behind this. What better place to steal and con and cheat people out of their money than the casinos of the Las Vegas Strip? It was relatively easy, but she had years and years of practice. She had spent most of her life in Vegas, and she knew the ropes of the casinos. She had her brother to thank for that. She closed her eyes thinking about her brother and she groaned. She had fucked up, and after running off like she had, she hadn't even managed to find her other like she had been hoping to. Six years on a wild goose chase, and nothing. But that was exactly why she was back in Vegas. To fix things.
She spent most of her days trying desperately to find hi, she felt like she was getting closer but she hadn't really turned up anything useful yet. It was annoying as all hell, if she was being honest, but she was stubborn and she wasn't going to let him be completely elusive. But she couldn't just constantly look for him; she did have a hotel room to pay for after all. So by night, at least for a few hours of it, she stalked the casino floors, carefully snatching a few chips of someone not expecting it. Playing a few rounds of blackjack after studying the people playing and poker-facing them out of a thousand between the five of them playing. She just flitted around stealing some hear and there racking up the big ones. Then, she'd cash in the chips for the night and go bout her merry way. Nothing to worry about, generally it was things no one even noticed.
Tonight she was feeling bold though. She did her normal routine, but as she went along, there was a group of rich guys walking and being oblivious. She smirked and shook her blond hair away from her face as she blue eyes watched their every move. She quickly fell in line behind them and he snatched a wallet, took out a few hundred dollars, returned the wallet and snatched the next guy's. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Easy as pie. In just under a minute she was walking away form the four men, counting the hundred dollar bills. Twelve hundred. A good haul. At that to the other four grand she had managed to snatch, Audrey figured it was time to call it quits before she really pushed her luck. She shoved the money into her purse and she looked up, watching her surroundings as she headed for the front door of the casino. She wasn't too far away when he froze, her eyes stuck on a very familiar figure. "Cai," she whispered. She had been searching for him to no avail and now there he was. The rational part of her brain told her she needed to stop and be calm talking to him or risk pissing him off or something, but the more conflicting emotional side of her brain won out and she walked quickly over to Cai and she slapped him across the face. "Jackass!" she growled. But then she threw her arms around him tightly, linking her fingers so it would be harder for him to push her off, as she nuzzled into him. "I missed you."

Cai was actually behaving tonight well somewhat. He wasn't stealing from every idiot he passed. Instead, he had taken to conning drunken idiots out of their money by scamming them with the promise of doubling their wallet flow. Confidence tricks had become one of his favorite ways to get his cash from the unsuspecting. His favorite method by far was taking the cheap purses he snatched right out from under some poor bitch only to sell them to easy socialites that want nothing but the best just to fit into their little worlds.
"Suckers," he muttered to himself after he sold the last generic brand bag that probably cost five bucks for a solid two hundred.
After that he had found a condemned building to count his total earnings. He was definitely satisfied with the total. Just a little under a thousand dollars. All-in-all it had been a good night. So now he was just roaming the Strip aimlessly. Yeah, he was bored out of his mind. It wasn't a bad thing. He was just used to doing something. What he wasn't used to was being bitch slapped. Initially, he wanted to react by snapping the neck of the poor idiot who attacked him but then his attacker hugged him and he finally recognized her voice.
"Kess?" it was sheer shock that kept him from attacking back or reacting in any other way.

'Kess?'
Audrey grinned and nodded, turning her head slightly to look up at her brother. That obviously shocked reaction was better than she had been expecting from him after being slapped by her. She wasn't complaining by any means, planning on wholeheartedly enjoying every moment he wasn't pissed off at her. Six years was quite a long time to go without seeing him, and not having a hug from him, even though she was the one hugging him not the other way around. They had always had their ups and downs, but up until she had run off six years ago after the nastiest of their fights, the two had always stuck by each other. So she was hoping she'd be able to get him to listen to her while she apologized for being a bitch and bolting like she had. But for the moment she just closed her eyes and enjoyed a few more seconds of embracing him.
She took a deep breath and then pulled away, just enough that while her arms were still wrapped around Cai's frame, her fingers were no longer linked and she could actually look at him properly. Same old Cai. God she had missed him. But she was back and she wasn't planning on letting him go. If he was pissed at her, which wouldn't shock her in the slightest considering how angry they had been with each other before she ran, combined with her actually running, then she would accept that and then stubbornly win him back over. It would happen, even if it too her another six years to get him to accept her again. She knew he was stubborn, and it might not be easy, but that stubbornness was a trait they shared and she wasn't planning on making it easy for him to get away from her if that's what he wanted. She would make it damn near impossible.
"Hi Cai," she started, her eyes flicking over his surprised face. "I'm back." She smiled a bit sheepishly at him but she kept her composure. She was going to be strong about this. She was hoping for a fairly normal approach to this. Maybe if she tried to act relatively normal he wouldn't get so pissed off? "So... How have you been?"

Cailean remained silent as she pulled back slightly to look at him but not enough to release him. He couldn't believe she was back in Vegas, let alone standing right there and hugging him. The shock was dissipating, however, as the memory of the day he last saw her resurfaced. Anger was quickly returning to him as he stared at the sister who abandoned him. It shouldn't have been a big deal, but Cai had trusted Audrey. It had been complete and total trust, but then she chose to go looking for the mother that abandoned them to Ulric Duke. Cai had felt abandoned all over again and it hurt the worst coming from his sister.
"So... How have you been?"
That snapped him out of his thoughts. He blinked once before he pushed her away from him with a dark growl. The shock had completely given way to his rage now. He was livid and his walls were firmly in place once more. Despite Audrey being his beloved sister, she didn't get a pass this time.
"You ever slap me again," he growled, eyes flashing to let his threat be clear, "I rip that hand off. Got it?"

And there was the anger. Audrey saw it a split second before he shoved her away, making her stumble back a couple of steps. She huffed softly and straightened up, not willing to be deterred by begin shoved away like that. Let the games begin. He was going to fight to keep her out, and she was going to fight her way in. She knew how thick his walls were though. But she knew him better than anyone. She could do this. She just had to be strong and never give in. She didn't know how exactly she was going to play it yet, but hey she had time.
'You ever slap me again, I rip that hand off. Got it?'
Audrey let out a snort at that threat. Same old Cai. They had both threatened each other in the past, but nothing serious normally. This was different though. She could hear the seriousness in her brother's voice. Something that she wasn't used to. He had never threatened her like that, and it shook her up even though she wasn't outwardly showing it. She knew why. She ran out on him. "Oh bite me," she sighed rolling her eyes. She didn't really sound all that upset. More annoyed than anything, as if it was just a fake threat he was dishing out, not the very real one it obviously was.

"Oh bite me."
He rolled his eyes at her come back. This was going to be a ridiculously long night. He, personally, would prefer to have nothing to do with his sister. In his mind, the last six years were unforgivable. He cared about her, yes. She was his sister. He just happened to hate her just as much.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
He wasn't playing with her. He refused. Just like everyone else who claimed they cared about him, she left him. He wouldn't forgive that. He never had before. Why start now? It made no sense if you thought about it.

'What are you doing here?'
"What the hell do you think?" she shot back, crossing her arms. She had a feeling tonight was not going to be a terribly productive night. Not that she was expecting all that much. She was just hoping for better, not expecting, but certainly hoping. She wanted her brother to accept her again, so they could go back to being a... relatively normal pair of siblings and have each other's backs like they used to. No, she pretty much knew hands down that wasn't happening right away, and really it never happening again was looking like a stronger and stronger possibility. But if there was one thing she could count on, it was the fact he was all she really had. All she ever had. And despite her stupidity in bolting, she hadn't actually really wanted to hurt him. She was just angry, and he should know better than anyone when she got really pissed off, she never was thinking clearly.
"I came looking for you. Because you are my brother. I was stupid, and did some not well thought out things, and I want at least the chance to make it up to you. At least give me that?" She stared him down and odd mixture of anger at his anger, regret, and sorrow in her expression that made her feel vulnerable, and she hated it. But then, it was Cai and he had this way of dropping her own walls, even when she didn't want then down. Clearly he had more control over that than she did, because it was obvious how guarded he was. She had seen that in action with others, and it was really weird seeing that directed at her now.

Cailean glared down at her. What kept him from killing her where she stood was that he still loved her. She was his sister. Not that he wanted to admit it to her. He wanted her to leave and go back to looking for the mother that abandoned them to a fate worse than hell.
His eyebrow quirked up at her attitude. He really shouldn't be surprised. She was just as stupid and stubborn as he was. Still, it had been a while since someone stepped to him with a backbone. It was different. He was used to being jumped from behind. It was how everyone else dealt with him. Verbally tended to get them gutted. Still he chose not to answer the question or even acknowledge it with even a mediocre reaction. He simply waited for her to get to her point.
He certainly wasn't expecting her to be standing in front of him, essentially to request a second chance with him. He didn't do second chances. He didn't do apologies. He wasn't a creature of forgiveness. That was how he was raised. It never changed over the decades. It was always the same. If someone screwed up the rickety trust he gave them, he pretty much wiped the existence of them out of his head.
"Not interested," he said coldly. "Go back to finding the woman who wanted nothing to do with us."
He turned to leave her there without flinching. Honestly, he wanted to keep as much distance between them as possible. He didn't want to let her back in. He didn't want to forgive her.

'Not interested. Go back to finding the woman who wanted nothing to do with us.'
She snorted at that and watched him turn away. That pretty much summed that up. She figured Cai wasn't going to be giving her that second chance. She knew it wasn't how he operated, but she figured it was worth a shot. She watched him walk away and she raised an eyebrow. She idly wondered if he actually thought she wasn't going to be stubborn enough to follow him. Or at the very least hunt him down later and talk to him again. She was going to fix this. It was going to happen. She didn't care if he didn't want to, it was going to take a lot for him to break her resolve on this one, and she was going to make damn sure he knew it too.
After a few moments she walked after hm quickly catching up and then falling into step beside him. "Didn't think you would be interested. But I thought I'd ask anyway," she shrugged glancing up at him for a moment before she turned her attention on their path. "But you see, the problem with you not being interested is that we are both stubborn assholes, and I'm very interested in this. So I'm going to work at making it up to you anyway. Push me away if you like. It's not going to change my resolve. I rather missed it here and I'm planning on staying. And what point is there if I can't work on making amends with my brother, hm?"

Cai heard her following after him and wasn't surprised when she fell into step beside. If it had been anyone else trying to pull this shit, they'd be a smear on the pavement. Audrey was lucky he loved her just as much as he hated her at the moment. He actually chose to ignore her, which was quite a feat considering how aggressive he was. He simply continued to walk through the street and refused to utter a word to his sister.
He stopped and spun around to glare at her. Why couldn't she take the hint and leave him alone? That was something he couldn't grasp. He just wanted to be left alone. That was all he wanted. Why was it so hard for her to get that?
"I don't give a shit what you want, Audrey," he said. "I'm done."

'I don't give a shit what you want, Audrey. I'm done.
She felt her lips curl into a scowl as she narrowed her eyes, her tempter spiking with his. That was the biggest problem with her temper, she fed off the anger of others, and it often made her snap. "Yeah well I'm not!" she growled back at him. She wasn't going to let him get away with never seeing her again. She wasn't going to leave him alone. She was planing on always being there. Always. She hated him hating her but she was really at a loss for how to fix it. But she was going to be persistent. That was her only plan so far.
"I'm not done. I'm never going to be done. Nothing short of death is going to get rid of me, Cai." She stared him down and was hoping her brother didn't hate her enough to want her to actually die. But he was really temperamental, and it was hard to say what he was thinking, but she was pretty sure she hadn't done anything so horrific he'd actually want her dead.

Cai was fed up with his sister's persistence. He wasn't ready to forgive and forget. He wasn't sure he ever would, but for today he really wasn't in the mood to decide or even consider any of it. He just wanted to be alone. Audrey was the more even-tempered of the Dukes - dead or alive. Their father had been angry and nasty. Cai, however, was the most volatile. He tended to explode randomly. One thing could brush right off him one minute only for the same situation to trigger a round of rage. It made Cai the most dangerous because of his unpredictability. Though he was forever grumpy as a rule, the wolf was either indifferent or nasty. If he was nasty, he had the potential to be deadly.
"Audrey, I'm no---"
She cut him off and he lost it. He grabbed her by the throat and slammed her up against the wall beside them hard. Anyone else, he would have torn into their throat. She was lucky he liked her most days.
"Fuck you, Audrey!" he roared right up in her face. "I'm not in the mood for this and honestly right now I'm pissed off enough to kill something. So if you don't want it to be you, I suggest you back the fuck off me. I'm not playing tonight."
Anyone else and he wouldn't have bothered with the warning or talking at all. Even though he was furious with her, his first instinct wasn't to hurt his sister. It was to protect her, even from himself. Granted, slamming her around was a contradiction but words weren't getting through to her.

'Fuck you, Audrey! I'm not in the mood for this and honestly right now I'm pissed off enough to kill something. So if you don't want it to be you, I suggest you back the fuck off me. I'm not playing tonight.'
She yelped in a bit of pin as her head slammed against the wall seconds before Cai started screaming at her. She blinked at his words and then a sneer twisted her features. This was the reaction she was expecting. Screaming and violence. It did suite Cai's personality to be so hostile, but she couldn't help but be enraged by it anyway. How dare he! Sure he had every right to be pissed. But she was trying to make amends, and while she wasn't seeking instant forgiveness and such, she just wanted the chance to be heard out. But he wasn't having any of it, being the thick-headed asshole he often was. Audrey felt her fists clench, though she wasn't planning on hitting Cai again. Mostly because she knew he was being fairly serious before when he had threatened her hand if she hit him again. She didn't want to push that button any more tonight. Other buttons maybe, but not that one.
"Go right ahead," she growled darkly. "Fucking kill me if that's what you want. Lord knows I've done enough to at least warrant it if not deserve it. So go on then. Rip me into pieces, rip out a vital organ or two." She didn't want to fuck around with this anymore, even though she didn't think he'd actually do that to her, though she was still pushing her luck. Her good mood of the evening was gone. Poof. Vanished. She wasn't surprised in the least, but it was still pretty annoying. "Because you know what? I'm not playing either. I'm here because I genuinely feel like shit for what I did and I decided going on a wild goose chase wasn't worth you. Going on a hundred of them wouldn't be worth you."
She stared him down for a moment then she decided to continue. "I know I fucked up. I know I'm currently a really big screw up. Excuse me for trying to correct my mistakes. But It's going to be hard for me to back off when I'm being held up against a wall. You can let me go, and we can continue this when you aren't losing your cool. I'm prepared to wait. I just hope you can handle me being around because I'm not planning on leaving Vegas." She watched him waiting for him to just explode on her blatant disregard for his warnings.

Cai looked at his sister and finally released her. He didn't actually want to hurt her despite his rage. Well, he didn't want to seriously hurt her. It was more that his temper couldn't allow him to be gentle. He was trying to hold the worst of it back, however. Putting distance between himself and his sister, he worked a little harder to bury the insanity that came from his temper. Sadly, it was something he inherited from his father. He would hate it if it wasn't for the fact that without that rage he held onto like a security blanket he was empty and hollow. He didn't know how to feel anything other than that anger against the world and the cards he had been dealt with.
The wolf wasn't a creature of forgiveness. He didn't know how to forgive. It was always his sister who kept him from going bat shit crazy and despite a part of him still kept her words of common sense close to his heart. He never did anything too stupid. Still, he was nowhere near the way he was when Audrey was with him. If he were honest with himself, he would eventually do something to get himself killed the longer he kept his sister at a distance. He wasn't honest with himself. He had to admit he needed her in order to forgive her. He couldn't do that. He stubbornly believed he was better off alone.
“I let you go,” he growled, ignoring everything she said to him. “You can leave now.”
