She dangled the locket in front of him and he felt a jolt of surprise. It was almost as if the thing was haunting him. It was hard for him to wrap his head around the idea that his attitude towards the thing had done a complete three sixty. At first, the idea of having something of his fathers had been something he'd been dreaming about for a lifetime but then when he found out Kaia had it, he felt sick touching it. It was bad enough his emotions were all twisted and confused and then to throw that into the mix... He was pretty sure if he was alone, he would have gone crazy by now. But he kept his face void of the emotions he was feeling and smiled at her, taking the silver chain from her and gazing at the locket. It was simple but decorative and clearly the work for a master craftsman. Though Nykolae wasn't sure of the origins of the locket, it had to have been an object that had meant a lot to someone at some point. He supposed the least he could do was give it the attention it so deserved. Maybe he needed to stop thinking it was his father's and consider it his, now.
The thought, at least, helped him lift the locket and slid it down over his neck where the cool of the metal rested on his bare chest, right above his heart. He was surprised to find that the locket didn't feel heavy at all. In fact, besides where it touched his chest, he barely noticed it was there. Perhaps he'd be able to deal with wearing it after all. He smiled at her. "Maybe I can get a picture of you to put in there." he teased.
The idea of someone giving him something was completely foreign to him. His whole life, he was treated differently and he'd learned to take things for himself. Because of being a hybrid, he was accepted by neither faction; human or vampire. He quickly learned to get over being alone but it took him awhile to come to the idea that he wasn't going to get anything without putting some effort into it. It wasn't until he met a young girl in Venice who taught him to think a little differently about humans. He'd done the unthinkable to her, crazed on self loathing and hunger and yet, even when she lay broken and bleeding, she managed to give him a smile. He left her then, the ghost of her smile haunting him. It wasn't until three years later, when he returned to Venice and ran into the same girl that his opinions changed. Even with the unthinkable things he'd done to her, even leaving her to die, she still managed to smile at him and hand him a single flower she'd bought off of a street vendor before she danced away, body just as graceful as he remembered. He'd saved the flower for centuries, unable to let it go, still unable to understand why she'd forgiven him. Of course, the idea with he and Kaia and the locket was nowhere within the same league but it was an example of just how often Nyk had been given something and he supposed he felt a little softer towards the locket, especially with the look Kaia was giving him. It clearly meant a lot to her too and there just didn't seem to be anyway he could refuse her.

Once it was around his neck the corners of her lips curled upwards in satisfaction. The look on his face gave her the impression he would deny it again but when he took it her eyes widened in surprise. “It worked.” she thought, genuinely surprised but the feeling didn’t last long as it was replaced with a feeling of empowerment. Her hand reached out towards the locket and with a gentle touch held it between her fingers. While caught up in the last few hours Kaia had come to forget the very images that caused her restless sleep the night before –the revelation of Nykolae’s true purpose here and the ghastly deed that became a result of it- but only temporarily it seemed as they began to play in her mind like an old movie once more, triggered by a simple touch. The images played like a vision but they were powerful memories she had been foolish to forget. The locket had been around Oliver’s neck the moment he died and until Kaia had it cleaned still showed remnants of him through his blood stained onto the metal. If you paid closed enough attention to it and with strong enough senses you could still catch the faint smell of blood on it. This however didn’t seem to change her mind when deciding to give it to him that night. It was just another reason for her to give away and in doing so hopefully spare her anymore pain from its constant reminder.
”The only kind of picture you’ll get from me is the mental kind.” She teased back with a wink. Her hand slid from the locket and down the center of his abdomen before stepping away. She turned around and looked in the mirror, leaning forward to fix a smudge under her eye. Before she could say anything else her phone went off in the next room, the vibrating against the wood beside table making her eye twitch slightly. She pushed herself from the sink and walked out of the bathroom with haste. The second she left his sight the phone stopped making the noise. Kaia didn’t want to hear the noise for one more second, though her irritation would quickly be replaced with something even more agitating. ”No, I don’t want the fucking money instead. That’s not what I asked for.... What kind of crook are you? Give me the fucking scroll or I take it from your dead hand.” She looked at her phone as she pressed the end button. ”Dickhead.” she muttered before tossing her phone onto the bed. For a brief moment she had forgotten she wasn’t alone and took a moment to collect herself, running her hands through her hair before storming out of her room. In a huff she walked down the hallway and into the kitchen but in mid thought stopped at the sight of the fridge door open and red liquid spattered across the floor. ”What the....Who the fuck did this?!” she roared just before bending down to pick up the empty bottle off the floor.

His entire being quivered with her touch and her blood sang in his veins, making him feel strangely light and warm. He barely even noticed the extra interest she took in the locket. Instead, he was leaning in towards her, his eyes raking ever curve of her neck, the subtle lift of her breasts and the aphrodisiac that was her blood. Here, in the bathroom, with only a towel around him, he wanted to dominate her again, to feel her squirm beneath him and become one with her, her blood pumping through his veins. She was insatiable in a way no other woman had made him feel before and he wanted more. He no longer cared if he was her prisoner or if he'd only been kept around as an exotic drink; he just wanted her to look at him, to touch him and to taste him. He reached up to take her hand where it touched his stomach but before he could restart the mood, he heard the phone ringing and he felt snapped out of his obsession, his heart hammering against his rib cage. What exactly had come over him? He barely listened to her conversation as he pulled his jeans on and ran a towel through his hair. It wasn't until she hung up the phone and he heard her anger from the kitchen, did he finally start to feel fear for her once more, the same fear she'd successfully created when she'd tortured and nearly killed him in her office. Shit. He forgot about the fridge. He hadn't expected to be gone from the fridge for very long that night and had every intention to returning and cleaning up the mess but he'd been so caught up in her throws of love making he'd completely forgotten.
He left the bathroom and approached the kitchen, wrinkling his nose at the smell of spoiled blood that had turned brown on the floor. Even the blood in the fridge looked spoiled, having been exposed to too much warm air from the open door. Fuck me. he grumbled to himself, feeling a slight tingling over his body as Kaia's anger became his own, fueling his own deep down fire that still remained as burning embers for his imprisonment. Maybe, if Kaia's blood wasn't so thick in his own veins, he wouldn't have lashed out but at this point, it no longer seemed to matter. "Forgive me for coming to see if you were okay!" he snapped, green eyes flashing red for a second before returning to his normal color. "Guess the next time shit breaks around here, I'll turn my back and go about my own business! Is that fine with you, Your Majesty." he snarled the last two words with venom, hands clenching into fists. Maybe, somewhere, there was a part of him screaming to stop....

Your Majesty. Kaia’s head tilted slightly as she felt a burning sensation shoot up her esophagus, and before she knew it she was bending down and picking up the open bottle before throwing it in his direction. She didn’t even take into consideration that there was nothing in it but the simple action of throwing something at him seemed to help. At that moment Kaia didn’t know what had come over her as she reached into the fridge and pulled out filled, but spoiled bottles of blood and continued to chuck things at him in a fury. She didn’t care if she actually hit him but it seemed his poor choice of words made something snap within her already fragile mind and his ill temper didn’t make it easier to fight off the feeling of anger. If he was anyone else she would have snapped his neck by now. Lucky for him both their blood bond and his locket kept him alive - for now.
”Do you seriously think that because we slept together you can talk to me like that?! You little shit!” She exclaimed as she threw the last bottle. With the last of them she felt her anger slowly begin to fade but it would quickly be replaced with spitefulness. Within the blink of an eye she approached him and stood but a few inches from him. Kaia was aware the spoiled blood wasn’t entirely his fault, she wasn’t clueless. In fact she wasn’t so blinded by rage to see it was simply an accident that could be excused. However she could have gone without the sarcasm, which only reminded her of her feelings toward him before the late night encounter, and with a sneer reverted back to the cold Kaia that had nearly killed him out of irritation once before. ”Sleep.” was all she said, eyes locked onto his as she compelled him to sleep, no longer wanting to deal with him until she was able to calm down. She watched him fall to the ground but her facial expression didn’t sway nor did she hesitate to step over him once he lay still on the floor. For now she would leave him to the guard that would eventually put him in his bed and when he awoke, hopefully, Kaia would be in a better mood by then.

Believe it or not, it wasn't the bottles whisking at his head that scared him. It was more the rising feelings he was getting from her than anything else. It also quickly nailed him down a few notches, relinquishing his anger and instead feeling a little more apologetic. But it seemed the moment for that was long gone. He dodged the first bottle, the empty broken one and managed to catch the second one before he was hit in the shoulder with the third one, a shard of glass cutting into his skin and sending him back a few steps. "Fuck!" he said, dropping the bottle he'd caught and allowing it to shatter on the floor, sending old smelly blood all over his bare feet and bringing his hand up to yank the shard of glass from his shoulder. When he looked up, Kaia had appeared before him and he found himself startled. "What the-" And before he managed to finish his question, he felt her words more than heard them and it was automatic. His brain instantly shut off, sending him into blackness as he hit the floor. Perhaps he deserved this. The tensions in the penthouse were fluctuating too much and without a happy medium, there was sure to be more chaos. Maybe this would give them the time they needed to sort through things. After all, getting her blood out of his system would probably be the best first step.
