Night had fallen on Harper Valley and a blanket of darkness wrapped itself around the town, letting only the light of the moon stars in the sky pass through it. A light breeze passed through, enough to send a chill down the average man's spine, but it had very little effect on the supernatural. Clouds were gathering overhead, resulting in a moderate downpour of rain onto the town below. It was more than a drizzle, but not enough to be deemed heavy rain - just enough to get you wet, of course. Given the time and the weather conditions, there were few people outside, at least where Macht was at, leaving him alone at the fountain. Sometimes, this was all the man needed, to sit alone, listening to the rain, feeling the cool wind against his skin. This was one of the reasons he'd come to Harper Valley in the first place. This wouldn't have been quite as nice in New York.
Macht was seated at a bench roughly five yards from the fountain, wearing only a light, white muscle tee and blue jeans. The rain was pouring down, hitting everything in the area, but him. As it came within an inch of his body, it seemed to hit some sort of force field, and dripped down as if it were running down a surface. In reality, he was simply redirecting the water, focusing on his technique. This left him dry in a such a humid environment, and if there were more light and people in the area, perhaps he would have stood out to someone. The solitude was exactly why he was doing, this, though. No chance of getting caught, and all the time in the world to just sit back and practice one's magic.
Hours would pass and Macht had not moved from his spot. He'd been working on the basics, building spheres of water and launching them into the fountain, smiling in amusement at the small, controlled splashes he would create. This eventually got dull, however, and he stood to his feet and walked over to the fountain, the rain still missing him entirely. Once he was a yard from the fountain, he pulled a small coin from his pocket and stared at it for a good long while. Now, he knew these wishing well things were utter crap, especially when they were fountains and not wells, but he couldn't help but feel the urge to go for it anyway. He had plenty of things he wanted, so it couldn't hurt, right? With a smile, he released the coin and it was taken by an orb of water, brought slowly to the bottom of the fountain.
"Here's hoping," he whispered to himself. The first words he'd uttered in days.

Superstition was for fools. It allowed people to become exploited allowing them to wallow in self-pity when their lives turned to crap in their very eyes. People could not just handle the fact that they deserved it. They believe it was down to luck; Marissa believed it was down to how stupid people really are. Humans, well normal humans were the most susceptible, gullible to a fault.
This was not a part of town she frequented often, its innocent inhabitants repulsive to her crazed persona. It was too quiet for her own liking. People and blood went hand in hand. Without the excitement of the destruction of their lesser species then there was not much fun to be had. Being thousands of years old meant that she could become quickly bored of something. Throughout time, she had seen empires fall; she had seen religion purge others from this world. She had seen stupid people tell other stupid people what they should and should not do in order to have the perfect world.
Somehow, it did not surprise her to see someone trying to throw a coin into the lake, hoping for a miracle to happen. There was once a miracle, but that could have been down to the fact that an ancient being lived in the well. However, the hapless beings above did not see this and would give offerings to it. Whoever it was, they were damn lucky. Why did people not throw money and power at her? She would welcome it with open arms before removing them from that beautiful donor.
Looking closer, she noticed it was a man. Not what she expected but not impossible either. The man who she saw was too hot for his own good. Believing him to be the goody type made her internally puke, for there was nothing worse than a saintly figure, she walked slowly towards him. Her feet were bare, for she often grew bored of the shoes she wore. That and she liked the ground under her feet. It reminded her of home.
The brisk air scooped her hair behind her ears, her face peering into the night. Once she had gotten close enough she stopped. Tutting at the stranger, she folded her arms. Without taking her eyes of his figure, she slowly tilted her head to the side before returning it to a static position. “People waste fine money on such credence. You do not need hope. You need a bloody miracle…” When she realised she had gotten his attention, her feet moved closer to the potential victim. A smirk formed on her face. “I was not interrupting anything was I?”

Macht's solitude was interrupted by the sound of a feminine voice making a rather callous remark. His smile turned to a frown and he rotated his head to face the woman. He noticed she was barefoot and lacked an umbrella, first, and she would notice the rain stop hitting her. While she slightly irritated him from the get-go, Macht at least extended the courtesy of keeping her moderately dry - not that he needed to. He could feel she was... different. What she was, exactly, remained unknown to him, and as such, he stayed on the defensive. "Of course not," he began forcing a smile onto his face. If she didn't come of as so damn conniving, he probably would have noted how attractive she was.
"What brings a beautiful woman like yourself out here at this time of night?" Okay, maybe he did notice, but it wasn't distracting him. He took in every one of her features that he could note, watching for mannerisms, tells, anything to note what she might be. It wouldn't be obvious, however - Macht had been doing this for over a century, so he'd learned discretion. "Just looking to get some air, I assume?" The last question was a little more rhetorical, considering there was practically more rain than air - figuratively - so he mostly just asked it to ask it.
//Not at all! I was actually going to hop into your open thread later, haha. Sorry if it's too short - if it is just lemme know and I'll add to it.

Whatever he was doing, it was irritating the hell out of Marissa. First, it was the smile. She could tell it was forced, and though she would have usually pretended like she either did not notice or that he was being sincere, she was being in a forthright mood at present. For the first time in a long while, she was getting sick and tired of saying all of the right things without actually meaning any of it. Innocence she mused to herself was so overrated. Most people were not that innocent, it was always such a façade. Letting out a sigh, she realised that though she wished to spar with him, it would do no good if he were not willing to bite back. “Well we both know that is not true. I most certainly did miss something though I will not divulge what that was.”What would make this person tick? Well she obviously had hit something yet it was not nearly enough. Another thing that seemed to be bothering her, well at least in terms of an observational point was the lack of water on him. Whatever he was doing, he was good at it. The funny thing was that Marissa was a master at manipulating water herself. Yet where he seemed frivolous in using it to protecting himself from being wet, she stored it for when she actually needed it. Water was great in many ways. She could manipulate it, though not generate it, but she loved it on her skin, in her hair. Most others would not but she felt at some sort of harmony with the faint droplets cooling her skin. At least the man knew some sense to know she looked good, even when her ringlets grew tighter with the rain. Her usually darkened eyes were clear of makeup and she was modestly dressed in a plain dress. Yes, it clung to her but that was because it was becoming more wet not due to a deliberate design on her behalf. “They always say don’t trust a beautiful stranger.” She slowly took her eyes of his and scoured his body. He seemed tall and fit. The power coming of him told her that she was not going to be having a victim tonight. Truth be told, she did not really need one. Rolling her eyes at his curiosity, she decided to tell him the truth. Why no one will ever know, perhaps she saw no need to pretend. “I was bored. I like to be one with water when I can.” She would let him read into that as he will. Occ: haha that is something not too short at all. Just post however much you like to. As long as it is not just a line haha

So the woman seemed like she was trying to bait him. Why, though, he had no idea. She could be a vampire, which would spell bad news - more for her - but that wasn't the worst of scenarios. There was no full moon out, so there was no need to worry about her being a werewolf. It was a toss-up between Magi, Djinn, Deacon, and Demon, none of which would have been a particularly good thing. He could aptly defend himself, but the cunning and all was more than annoying. Macht preferred a straightforward battle if he was going to be in any at all. Out of habit, he looked around, seeing if the woman was alone or if he was being surrounded. It never hurt to check.
"I never said anything about trusting you," he spoke with a chuckle, taking a step to the woman's left side. Her remark about the water was one he could read into, or just shrug off as small talk, but he chose to read into it. For a moment, the thought that she could be a mermaid slipped into his head, but he quickly forced it out. "What, this is your idea of a fun time?" Macht turned so that his back was facing her, but the water in front of him extended, taking the form of a panel. The light from the sky reflected off of it, allowing him to use it like it was a mirror so that he could keep an eye on the woman in case she tried something.
He laughed to himself lightly, forming a small trail of water and running his middle finger along it before turning to face the girl again. She'd evidently noticed his control over the water and it hadn't surprised her, meaning he didn't need to hide it, so he wouldn't. "Water is in your dominion, I assume."

Something must have registered in him, for she noticed him looking around. Irritating grew within her. She did not need any form of protection. She was the power itself. How dare he think that she needed back up! It was frankly degrading to think that she was weak. Yet she had an innocent face. The very thing she used to get her victims was also there to hinder the importance of her power. Marissa could be hotheaded but killing one such as him might have some rewards but her precious Viktor, whom she dearly wanted to love her, would not authorise the kill. Though she generally got her way, he would be dismayed to kill a potential weapon.
Sighing she rolled her eyes once more. “I do not need any form of back up. I can look after myself. If I was going to try and kill you, you would be dead.” It was not her boasting, she was merely speaking the truth. She would not have stopped to chat with such a threat. Sure toy with him when she had him captured but not before. When he talked about trust, she gave him a smile. Not a predatory smile but one showing her approval. Perhaps handsome man did have some brains after all.
He formed some sort of barrier or panel, allowing him to see her. She had never done this herself before and though she would have hated to admit it, her interest was piqued. He used his magic, either for himself or her own benefit and turned back towards her. Looking at him in curiosity, she tiled her head slightly to the right. “Yes.” It was just a whisper but one he would be able to hear. He did not know she also possessed the power of sublimation. If she wanted to she could turn herself right now into air, though it raining would not have helped her any. Looking to the sky, her eyes glowed slightly brighter when she used her Magik. The drops did not fall on her anymore, they instead slowly danced around her body. She looked to her right hand.
With her hand, an accumulating of this drops formed into a sphere. “A great many are afraid of water and though water takes life it can also grant it.” It was something her mother used to say when she would get upset with others judging her. Oh how she missed her mother. She did not even realise she spoke it out, drowning in her own haunting memories.

"Don't flatter yourself," the Dragon began with a chuckle. So many people seemed to be confident in themselves, this woman included, but while she was in her element so was Macht. No, if she wanted to kill him she could have tried, and then he would have claimed her life as a result. He was more than ready and more than willing, and figured it wouldn't be too difficult. He wouldn't act for now, however, just stay on the defensive. For now, he just simply watched as she went about with her little sphere of water, an elementary trick at best. If he was supposed to be impressed, he wasn't.
Macht held up his own right hand, several drops of rain collecting above it and forming almost bullets. He launched them into her sphere and caused them to explode - small and non-violent - from within her sphere, to make it, in turn, burst. Was this a hostile gesture? Possibly. Macht was unsure himself - maybe it was just a show that he was unafraid. "Water is the element of life, of course." A small grin appeared on his face and he took several steps toward the woman, closing the distance between the two rather quickly.
Be wary, my child, a voice spoke into his head, causing him to halt and clutch his head. The mother. You don't face just any ordinary foe. This woman is powerful... A grunt followed and he looked the woman in her eye with an intensity he didn't have before.
"Who are you?"

The sphere took next to no time at all to make nor did it require any effort of true energy into it. It was one of the first things here mother had taught her. It was a way to focus Marissa, especially when others around her threatened her with death for her gift. Her mother always insisted that she would be special, that she would help the world. Perhaps the turn she has taken would not lead her to what he mother envisaged but Marissa was proud of the accomplishments that she had achieved. Still her mother’s words rung out, telling her that she should not settle for anything other than perfection.
The bullets broke her sphere. If she had not been calmed by her magic and by her memory, she would have had a serious shot of trying to kill him. The insubordination itself was terribly vexing for her nerves. She retained her sanity, at least for now. She could not guarantee that she would have to release her bloodlust later; then the handsome man would be sorry for mocking her. She just looked at him at his own arrogance. He had no idea who he was messing with. He may be powerful but she had thousands of years to practice her craft and if need be she could call upon the power that Viktor possessed. However if she did that then Viktor would know what she had been up to; now was not the time to upset him.
“Well wouldn’t you like to know. I do not usually give my name out for nothing. What will you give me in return for such information?” Slowly she licked her lips awaiting his reply. She was not the head Inquisitor at the Scarlett Council for nothing. She knew that the key to real power, as well as being powerful in magik, was knowledge. She knew from first-hand experience it could cripple a dynasty.

"A name for a name." Macht replied almost instantly, snapping at the woman but in a hushed tone. The Mother hardly spoke to him, as he'd typically done fine on his own. Now, however, she chose to warn him, and he was intent on finding out why. There must be something special to this girl. Maybe she was part of the Council? The mere thought of that sent shivers down his spine - he may have bit off more than he could chew. His newfound fear did not show itself, however. Instead, he continued to assert dominance, and all the rain in the area would halt its downpour at his command.
Be. Wary. The Mother continued to warn, but he wasn't going to just back down. Like Colton said, just because something is unlikely doesn't make it impossible, so it was damn well believable that this could be a member of the Council. For such a scenario, Macht was unprepared, as he'd yet to befriend a Vampire, but he would handle it. Somehow. "Fair is fair. A name won't get you anymore than a name." He was firm, adamant. Maybe he'd just gotten sick of running all this time? Macht could feel his blood boil, he hoped for this to be someone important to the council. If she was, he would be perfectly justified in ripping her heart from her chest and feasting upon it.

For the second time this night, she had underestimated him. Perhaps she was so used to people bending over backwards, they never stood their ground. This one was different, this one was piquing her interest. Whatever secrets he possessed she would not divulge, not unless it benefited her in any way. Nodding she conceded his point. “I thought my shining personality would have made you give up more.” She pretended to be offended, placing a hand on her chest and inhaling sharply. Internally she was impressed by his show of strength. That made her respect him a little bit. If he did anything less, she would have killed him at that moment.
She watched him come closer to her. Oh wasn’t he becoming a very heroic and stupid person. That in itself she liked. “A deal it is. My name is Marissa. Now you honour your end of the bargain.” She closed further in on him, no longer waiting for his own. When she got close enough, she placed her index finger on him. Slowly she started to circle him, not once lifting her hand away from him. Her eyes were alive with anticipation of a potential fiery nature she truly wished would shine. Her hopes would be dashed if he remained so calm by the end of the night.
“I so like a man who knows his own mind.” One day she would break him down, today was not that day. For now, she longed to know him better, to find his strengths and weaknesses. If he were wise, he would do the same. “I wonder why you are out alone when there are a great many dangers in the dark.” Vampires and the rest could hang themselves for how pathetic and weak they were. Not so much the originals, for those were the ones she would always be cautious of even if she felt like she had years on her side. She was truly wondering what species he actually was. She had a couple of suspicions but she would get him to reveal himself in due course.

Macht watched her mock offense, a small smirk once again cracking his way onto his face. She continued to play with him... he admired her guts, that was for sure. Without magic in existence, what she was doing to a man seemingly as temperamental as him was virtually suicide, but as far as he knew, she had at least as decent of a grip over the realm of water as he did. "Marissa, huh?" He was silent for a moment, just waiting and watching as she circled him, though he remained motionless for now. He just listened when she was behind him. "The name is Macht." As much as he didn't want to, he was a man of respect, and if she gave up her name first, he'd meet that. I know the name... Marissa... Since she'd had a finger on him, it would be likely that she could feel him tense up as the Mother continued to contact him.
"There's nothing out there I fear, Marissa," he began, folding his arms across his chest after she spoke. Vampires and Werewolves couldn't get the drop on him, and he hadn't ever fought a Demon he couldn't handle. Djinn were the only real problem. "I've seen it all, and I've handled it all." If she continued to circle him, his right hand would shoot up to grab hers as her finger passed his chest again, and he'd look her straight in the eyes. This night just kept getting more interesting. "Tell me... you're not part of the Council, are you?" He'd had his suspicions, so he might as well ask.

She could not tell why, but she could have sworn he flinched ever so slightly. It did not seem to be due to the cold. Whatever it was, he was reluctant to show it. Her estimations of him were growing. Still he was just a man and she knew how all men felt about certain things. If she did not then her job would have been that much harder. Human nature rarely changed. Vampires had a way to remain in the past and the others pretended to be something that they were not. The only greats she knew would hang their heads in shame over how easy it was to cover them into submission. His declaration of no fear was always a lie. Everyone could fear, you just needed to press the right buttons. As for Marissa herself her fear was deliberately hidden deep within her, determined never to see the light of day again.
She continued to circle him, wondering what he was going to divulge to her. It took him next to no time at all to tell her what she needed to know. Whatever he was hiding, he needed to know that she was not a part of the council. Continuing on her walk, she thought a couple of seconds before speaking. “I presume you have some…dealings with the council?” She did not recognise the name and frankly, if he was wanted for something trivial then she could not care less. The only beings she dealt with were the big players. His name did not ring a bell but that was of no surprise. She got her orders straight from Viktor. Many times, she did not even need to know a name to do her job.
Seizing an opportunity, she decided there was only one course of action. “No I do not work for the council. I was offered the role once but turned it down.” This little nugget of information was actually the truth. There was a point that the Scarlett Council wanted to have her but she only wanted to work for Viktor. It was due to his persuasion that she truly joined their ranks. Still what he did not know was not going to get him killed. Well just yet anyway. “You have nothing to fear from me. I am a lone wolf.” Though she held the title of Head Inquisitor, she generally worked alone.

Did Macht believe this woman? Not entirely. Under different circumstances, he would, but again, the Mother hardly communicated with him. This woman was hiding something, probably her position. He wouldn't, couldn't press that issue, and he'd even feign believing her, but he wasn't going to allow himself to be caught off-guard. It was good that she didn't recognize him or his name, really, and that alone relieved him slightly, but it could all be a ruse... after over a century of solitude, it was hard to trust anyone, particularly suspicious figures like this woman. The name got him nothing, a bargaining chip worth very little. In truth, it disappointed him.
"Like I said, there's nothing out there I fear. But, that's good. It means tonight won't have to end bloody." Somewhat calmer now, he allowed the rain to resume - it was almost like time was stopped for the two for a moment, the way the rain reacted, though the downpour was slightly heavier due to its buildup. "Why would this particular lone wolf be interested in little ol' me? Saw my handsome face and couldn't resist?" Despite the comedy behind the line, Macht looked and sounded serious. A small, liquid pendant would form around the woman's neck as he spoke, extending out to his hand. Again, not a hostile gesture, just something to pass the time.

Trust was always a touching matter to deal with. In order for one being, whatever their species would be, to trust another they had to share some of secret liaison. This was out of the question at present, he was too unpredictable a man to really know what his intentions actually were. As to the very idea of friendship itself? No one really wanted to be a friend to her. The only ones in the world that actually cared about her were her siblings. Friendship seemed like such a fickle thing, but that was because she was lacking in the experience of it.
At least the cute man had sense not to completely trust her right now. Only a fool would have done otherwise. Secretly pleased that she was actually starting to like him even if he was being a jerk about it. “Something like that yeah.” Stopping, she pulled away with her eyes down. Why did she have to tell him that? Sometimes she cursed her own stupidity at speaking before she actually thought about what was coming out of her mouth. She turned away from him to remain composed and not let him see the embarrassment she felt. Usually she was not like this but she let herself be caught up and had nothing to retort back.
Looking up at the sky, feeling the precious water on her skin, she continued. “I saw you here hoping for something that I fear will not come true. Perhaps in that split second I knew exactly how you felt at that moment with the well.” Cursing at her own openness, she steeled her good side, pushing it back into her core. Turning to him, her eyes were cold once more. She saw the droplets form around her neck. At first, she would have lashed out but she did nothing of the kind. She simply remained focused on his eyes.“How brave you must be. Still is this absolutely necessary? I have not done anything towards to you. Well not yet anyways. I am sure I could get you to beg before long.” A smirk formed on her lips. This was the powerful girl she needed to be, not the innocent one two minutes ago.

For a moment, Marissa changed, and Macht took note of it. He cocked a brow, closing the gap between the two after she walked away. Whoever she was for that small moment, he was attracted to her somehow, someway. Maybe it was the actual her? She could have been putting on this tough facade as a sort of defense mechanism, or something. Macht genuinely had no idea, but pressing on that subject couldn't hurt. If he could get her to be vulnerable, he'd have an in, and that was all he needed. "How did I feel, then?" He asked, stopping but inches away from her. The "pendant" remained in his hand as he looked down at her eyes.
When she spoke of begging, Macht chuckled. Of course she wouldn't allow herself to be vulnerable for too long a period, that just wasn't the smart thing to do. But she spoke defensively and he did note that. The same tactic as before: press on it. "Have I done anything unnecessary? I don't believe I've made any hostile gestures but please - by all means, make me beg." There was a light taunting jest in his voice as he spoke. Was it a challenge? No, definitely not. "I feel like there's more to you than meets the eye, and that's intriguing. Don't disappoint me, now."
