Lorna watched as people walked around her, someone glancing her way and walking away at random intervals after getting a vicious glare from her. Honestly, the magi would rather be elsewhere. It was her first time back in Vegas in a while and she was already sick of it. She was meeting her aunt, however. She promised and honestly, she was excited. She hadn't seen her aunt since she left the city. That didn't mean she enjoyed all the vampires and humans that she had to acknowledge in a civil manner. It disgusted her really. Vampires were blood-thirsty, power-hungry freaks of nature. Humans were just pathetic little nobodies that let their fear and hatred for the unknown destroy their compassion and humanity.
She ran a leather-covered finger over the smooth table in boredom. It wasn't particularly cold outside. It was chilly, yes, but the gloves weren't for the chill. In fact, a great deal of her skin was usually covered. It was mostly to prevent her specialty to be triggered unexpectedly through skin contact. Normally, it was through her hands only but sometimes when she was distracted or stressed it could be triggered by someone simply touching her arm. The unpredictability of that could get annoying so the preventive measures had become second nature to her.
"Come on, Aunt Mary, where are you?" she muttered to herself as she looked around her trying to see if she could pinpoint the older woman.
She couldn't see her. She actually couldn't find a single familiar face. Sighing, she leaned back and began playing with her necklace. This was going to be a long day. It already was actually. She just hoped seeing her aunt would brighten her mood somewhat. It usually did. She had no reason to believe it wouldn't this time.

| Meredith was a scrooge when it came to tardiness but today it seemed Mary was nothing but late to everything. This morning her alarm never went off, her coffee maker broke, requiring her to make an extra trip to the coffee shop on the way to work, and traffic was backed up on the highway due to an accident; all of which Mary blamed for making her late to work and because of it her mood was perpetually ruined. It wouldn’t be until lunch time when Mary felt she could finally catch a break, having been looking forward to her lunch date with her niece since she found out she was back in town. She hadn’t seen the young woman she thought of as her daughter, having raised her would be reason enough, in what felt like ages but in reality it had only been a few years. However to those who could live longer than the average human life span a few years didn’t seem like much at all. Nonetheless Mary made an extra effort to not be late for once that day and managed to do so fairly well, and would have been on time exactly if it wasn’t for the old lady that had to cross the street just as she was making a turn.
With a look of irritation she pushed her way through the crowd, a few people stepping aside for her upon looking at the woman’s face, wishing to avoid her wrath, and when she spotted her niece among the crowd her mood shifted from aggravation to excitement. ”I swear the more technologically advanced we become the less common sense these damn people have.” she said as she approached the table and once there set her purse in one of the chairs so she could properly greet her niece with a warm hug. ”Sorry I’m late. It seems the universe is working against me today.” The feeling she felt from seeing her niece again after such a long time was unexplainable, but if she had to she could sum it up in just one word; bliss.

we've lost it all & i am just a silhouette, a lifeless face you'll soon forget
Lor was ready to order two more coffees and just surprise her aunt at work. It would have been less annoying than sitting there by herself with no one to talk to and nothing to do. She was just bored now. It wasn't something she enjoyed most of the time. Running her gloved hand through her hair, she sat back and closed her eyes. She would give her aunt a few more minutes. While the older woman wasn't the type to be late, Lorna knew sometimes that couldn't be helped. Then she heard her voice. Her eyes flew open and she grinned as she stood up to greet her.
"Well, the humans have acted over the course of history, did you really expect anything less from them?" she asked as she hugged her back. "Granted, that's not saying much. Even other species are stupid."
Yes, she was bitter. She realized her tone was nothing but bitterness, but that was how it had been for the last year or so. At least on the topic of humans and the stupid things they do their entire lives, but realizing she was sinking into the sour mood that had become her default she quickly decided to veer the topic away from her biggest pet peeve.
"Anyway, enough about the idiots of the world," she said. "How have you been?"

| "Busy." She said with a exasperating sigh. "Between the cases at work and the investigation for the Council I have no time for myself these days." She took the seat directly across from Lorna and set her purse on her lap, unwilling to keep it anywhere but in her grasp at all times. Here in Las Vegas there was no shortage of petty thieves and con artists, in fact the city was founded by them, so setting it down or hanging of off the back of her chair was out of the question. The restaurant they had picked to meet was a quaint, ma and pa restaurant that had been around for at least 50 years and in the same condition it had been when it started. These kinds of restaurants were what Mary treasured most, valuing family owned businesses more than their name brand competitors. It was the small town shops and restaurants that had built this city and it was them that kept it afloat during its most trying times. Modern restaurants were all about the latest trends and making the most money but this one kept true to their food and traditions and in all honestly that was what mattered.
She looked up at her niece with a smile once settled into her seat comfortably, or as much as she could with a cast iron chair. ”How was your flight? Tell me about what you’ve been up to since we last spoke. Leave nothing out.” She said with a warm smile.

Lorna didn't envy her aunt there. At least as an interrogator for the council, she had time to do her own thing. She would absolutely die if she never had time to herself. Then again that was probably more due to the fact that she really hated people in general. Humans and vampires just happened to be the ones she chose to take it out on the most. Then again, she had reason to hate them a little more than everyone else. It really wasn't her fault on that one. It was just what it was.
“Which investigation would that be?” she asked.
She should probably know what her aunt was talking about. It was just she really wasn't paying attention to anything past direct orders and her vindictive obsession to single handedly dismantled hunting factions hellbent on eradicating magi, especially a particular group. Maybe she should try paying more attention to the things going on around her and her aunt. She actually kinda felt bad for being completely clueless.
“Anyway my flight was boring,” she said. “Barely slept before the flight and couldn't even catnap on the plane. There was a little brat that kept kicking my seat whenever I tried. It was horrible. Honestly, it's good to be back here. As for what I've been up to lately, not much really. After the group of human hunters, I've been working and making no other faction pops up wanting to take out any more innocent magi. So basically, I've just on a looped routine.”
