Anya remained silent as she committed everything he said to memory. It was habit from all her time as a journalist. Besides, she liked to keep track of things. It helped her a great deal. Though, she had to admit she never really thought about demons and angels in this detailed sort of format. She was certainly interested by the impromptu history lesson. It also made Anya feel somewhat sorry for Loki. She couldn't fathom what it was like in such a family. Unlike Loki, she had a very loving protective atmosphere growing up. Her parents loved her and she was close to all of her siblings. She couldn't say she understood why a sibling would turn on another the way Ren had done to Loki. It was actually kind of sad. Until he referred to himself as her master. That brought out the irritation she usually felt around him.
“That's not an entirely bad idea,” she quipped just to irritate him. “Honestly, I don't condone those types of stunts. Siblings should protect each other. They should never turn their backs on blood. It's not right. Whatever reason you may have intentionally or unintentionally gave him, killing you shouldn't be the action he takes against you. Look the only reason I don't like you is for those little comments you make towards me. And the way you treat me.”
She looked at him as she paused a little for a moment. She wasn't sure how he would react to what she was going to throw at him. She certainly hoped he would consider it all. Maybe try to see things her way even if just a little.
“Have you ever stopped to think that maybe I wouldn't hate you so much if you treated me like an actual person?” she asked. “I don't care whether you think I'm beneath you or whatever, but I don't like being referred to as a pet. It's a double standard and I hate the hypocrisy of it. You may be stronger than me, older than me, but you're a hypocrite. You know damn well you wouldn't put up with the shit you put me through so why the hell would you expect me to put up with it? The only reason I am here is to help you because it was the only way out that you gave me, but honestly you could have told me to drop the story and I would have given all my research over to you and deleted all my files on you. You could have watched me do it or done it yourself, ransacking my house in the process. You wouldn't have been in the paper and I would have stayed out of your business. Publicly at least. I don't agree with the shit you do so I can't guarantee I would stay entirely quiet, but you wouldn't have gotten your wing torn up and I would have happily moved on to another story. It's no secret I don't want to die so I would do anything to make sure I won't even if it means I have to go against my personal code of ethics. So if you really want my help, take my advice, and try to learn the meaning of respect. Who knows. Maybe you might actually get a chance to know what it feels like to have a friend, because I'm better at that role than the one you insist on forcing me into.”

"Humans are worthless, feeble minded creatures that run purely on the thoughts and feelings of those around them. They'd just as soon throw you under the avalanche to save themselves. That is why we destroy them. We've been exiled to these useless world and it's our duty to take it from these pathetic humans and make it our own world. We are above humans, they should be worshiping us! And instead, we hide who we are from them! Disgraceful! Use humans as your playthings, as your entertainment. Remember, Loki. The only person in this world you can trust is yourself and your brother. Keep yourself closed off from others and good things will happen for you."
Since he was a child, he and his brother were raised by their mother. She taught them everything they needed to know; self defense and destruction. Not once, had she enveloped her twins in her arms as a mother would and Loki came to appreciate such sentiments. Love was a weakness, family was a weakness. If he planned to survive in this world and rid the world of humans, he needed to stay strong and that meant hiding his true self away from the rest of the world. There were times, when he and Ren had been very young, they'd shared each other's vulnerability but as time wore on, their hearts' closed off and they became to separate. Loki assumed it was what had torn his brother away from the path of destruction and joined the Angels in his quest to kill him.
The wound wouldn't stop bleeding and Loki couldn't hold back the tears that leaked from his eyes, his lower lip trembling as he bit back a sob. His wing was splattered with blood from the hole in his side and he was stricken by the sheet horror of the sight. From the cave they'd crawled into, lightening lit the sky, followed by the deep rumble of thunder. Before him, outlined by the flames of the fire he'd created, Ren was heating up a piece of metal, brow furrowed as he concentrated on his work. Loki let out a quick sob and Ren flashed him a glare. "Shut up, big baby! If mother saw you now, she'd whip you an inch from your life! It's your own stupid fault the lion attacked you! Didn't I tell you to leave it the fuck alone?" He stood from the fire, the piece of metal looking like a magikal weapon in Ren's hand as the tip burned bright red. Loki whimpered, backing up till his back hit the cave wall. "Ar-are you going to tell Mother?" he asked, eyes never leaving the white hot end of the metal.
Ren continued to glare at him. Even for being a child, outlined by the fire with the flash of lightening in the background, Ren truly looked terrifying. He grabbed Loki's wrist and yanked him to the side as he touched the hot tip against Loki's skin, a sizzle echoing in the room as the smell of burnt skin radiated. Loki let out a feral scream of pain.
All the people he'd met, all the people he'd come into contact with, none of them knew the true Loki; the one who wasn't corrupted by Magik, the one who the Goddess saw as being Angelic. And it was this part of Loki, that Anya touched. If anyone else had given him such a speech, he probably would have ripped out their throat but he felt himself stunned when she spoke so brazenly. It was almost the same way Ren treated him. He'd put up with his shit for a little while and then bring him down a few notches just to get a few days worth of peace.
Loki stared at her, blue eyes full of surprise and curiosity. Her actually speech, the part he was supposed to take to heart, fell on deaf ears. After all, everything that she spewed was common sense. He knew if he acted differently, he'd be treated differently. It was rule number one of human nature. The only thing that really made him speechless was her comment about having a friend. That was one thing Loki never had. His brother had stayed by his side simply out of duty. His mother had pushed onto Ren, at a young ago, that he was supposed to protect him and he'd taken it to heart. Ren, after they became teenagers, hadn't been able to stand being in Loki's presence anymore. Loki had manipulated and scared humans into his service. He'd never actually earned anyone's trust or friendship. It had been a foreign concept to him. Standing before him, after all the things he did to, she was still offering to be his friend on certain conditions.
Centuries of practice kicked into gear and he quickly closed himself off once more, the vulnerability gone. Instead, his blue eyes became hard again and his smirk returned to his face as he reached out a patted her cheek. "You should have been a motivational speaker." he teased before walking into the dining room where she'd laid out their dinner.
((What a jackass XD))

Anya grimaced at his response and headed for the dining room. This was going to be a very long “vacation” going by the day's events and conversation. She chose to ignore him strictly so she could guarantee that she would be able to have a peaceful dinner. That didn't stop her mind from spinning around over the conversation they just. She wasn't stupid. She saw his expression before he returned to his factory settings. It made her think even though she really didn't want to. Still, she couldn't ignore what was painfully obvious. There was at least a small piece of him that clung to something she had said. She just wasn't sure what. If she had to guess, she would have to say the last part. That seemed more like something that would get to him. It was that brief glimpse that really did it for her. He truly had no concept of what she was offering him.
If anything, Loki should be afraid of Anya. The tigress was determined to make her situation more bearable. After seeing the brief expression that cross his face and hearing the snippet of his past, she realized he really had no concept of trustworthy interactions. If one of her siblings tried to kill her, she wasn't sure if she would be able to trust anyone again. For that, she couldn't really blame Loki for his less than stellar personality traits and warped sense of humor. As hungry as she had started off, she pushed her plate aside with food still on it and got to her feet.
“Come with me,” she demanded as she headed into the kitchen.
She put the spaghetti and meatballs away before getting out the ingredients she would need for her favorite doughnut recipe. She was going to enjoy herself if it killed – hopefully not literally. She was also scheming up something. It wasn't devious. It was more of a need to try and get what she wanted.
“Do you ever doing anything for fun that doesn't end in someone get hurt or killed?” she asked him. “Or are you one of those all work and no play types? I mean if that's the case, you're really a sad man. Seriously, when was the last time you let loose and actually relaxed a little?”

He'd only managed a few bites before she was demanding his attention. Merely out of curiosity, he followed her. He wasn't disappointed. He leaned a hip on the island, crossing his arms over his chest as he watched her start to pull things out of the cabinets. Fun? He did things for fun all the time! Of course, his idea of fun and other's idea of fun were two completely different things. Loki enjoyed the pain and torment of others and found great sport in creating such things. However, he didn't think Anya was pulling ingredients from the cabinet in the hopes to make someone's life a living Hell. He threw a smile onto his face but inside, his heart was pounding. What did this chick have up her sleeve? Did he look like a house wife?
"I have all kinds of fun." he mused. "In fact, just tonight, I had fun with you. However, I think your idea of fun and my idea of fun are on two different spectrums so, to satisfy your questions, I'll answer you with a no, I always hurt someone when I'm having fun and no, I have never actually sat back and relaxed because, if you've forgotten, not only do I have the Silver Cross breathing down my neck for my purifying, I have a serial killer for a twin who thinks my death will save him somehow." Of course, he could have just given her a straight yes or no answer but he was just trying to stall her, not liking the idea of whatever she had planned.

Anya turned on the fryer and rolled her eyes at the reminder of his idea of fun. She knew his answer though so the only thing that surprised her was how unnecessarily winded his answer was. She was listening even while she made the dough for the zeppole she planned to make for dessert. She was happy he was at least honest with her instead of sarcastic. It wasn't all bad, but the more he pointed out his dysfunction life story the more she felt bad for him. It only got worse with the reminder. It only intensified her decision to follow through with her little scheme.
“So you're saying you're happier staying in your little bubble than knowing the meaning of really living?” she asked. “That's really a lot more depressing than you seem to think it is.”
It was a childhood in a tight-knit family that made Anya sympathize with the demon to a limited extent. She couldn't really say she was well off in the friendship department. As a human, all she had was her family and as a werecat, she had friends in a limited sense of the term. She never confided in others where her past was concerned. She traveled frequently after fleeing Russia. The longest she stayed was a few months at most in the first few decades. Then she met Hell on Earth in the form of her ex and spent the majority of that period trying not to piss the bear off as much as she possibly could. After that she increased her say to a couple years at most. The thing about her was that she was a good friend for others to confide in. She didn't confide in them, however. Then again, most were human and she didn't make a habit of pointing out that she was not.
“We should change that,” she suddenly announced.
She stopped messing with the dough and stuck her hand back into the bag of flour to grab a handful. Without warning, she threw the white powder right in his face and steadily stared at him with a purely innocent expression. He could respond one of two ways and she hoped he would get the gist of what she was doing or at the very least not get unnecessarily enraged. If she had her way with this, the kitchen would be a flour blizzard in seconds.

Loki had his fair share of fights during his long life but not many he'd actually inserted himself into. Most of the time, he just allowed his shadows to do the work for him. Though, he wouldn't consider this a "fight", it certainly took him by surprise to suddenly have something thrown into his face. His first reaction was nothing at all. He stumbled backwards, blinking the white powder from his eyes and spitting it out of his mouth. When he finally looked up at her, blue eyes gazed expressionless out of a mask of white. A part of him reared up with anger. How dare she! He wanted to teach her a lesson, maybe chain her to the basement for a few days with no sunlight, food or water. Maybe even naked. That would get her screaming. But then, there was a part of him that paused and really looked at her. There was nothing remotely vengeful or angry in her stance or expression in fact, the innocent look on her face brought a mischievous smile to his face. Was this fun? Was this her version of fun? Innocent, harmless activities that simply made the other laugh?
He moved away from the island and walked towards her, his face still a mask of white. He got up real close to her, to the point where their chests almost touched and he reached around her, grabbing his own handle of flour and with a snort of laughter, he dumped it onto her own head. The white powder rained down over her hair and face and forced a white cloud to hover above them. Loki felt a stirring of something deep within his mind, something that allowed the smile to still stay on his face. He didn't want to admit any feelings. Feelings like these were a weakness. He was a killer, created and born to rain down destruction of the species that inhabited earth. And here he was opening himself up to her, showing her a part of his vulnerability he'd kept closely locked away. In fact, it was so rare that even the tiniest hint of a threat, he'd close himself back up again and return to torturing and killing, even if that meant Anya. He'd still wouldn't hesitate to chain her up in the basement, naked, till she screamed herself to death.

Anya wasn't sure what it was that she was expecting out of him. She knew what she wanted him to do, though, and was pleasantly surprised when the flour rained over her. She shook her head to set the flour loose in a light cloud. She grabbed the cool whip she had taken out, dipped a finger inside the tub, and smeared some on his face with a laugh. She learned a long time ago that the best way to let off a little steam was sometimes simply knowing when to be a little goofy. This seemed the perfect time, and if she was able to teach Loki that, they might both survive this.
Personally, she was just glad he had chosen to play this her way instead dipping into the destructive area that was clearly second nature to him. This was probably the first time she felt at ease and it was likely obvious. It definitely the first time she was relaxed enough to close her eyes and laugh. That was strange for her. She had a very rounded sense of humor and loved to laugh. Until that moment, she hadn't been able to do it around the demon. It was mostly due to the fact he enjoyed to irritate her and she was always aware that he would probably not mind killing her. He seemed at the very least a little relaxed for the moment so she was taking advantage of it.
“So this is your first food fight, right?” she asked after a little while.

She dipped her finger into the whipped cream and smeared it across his already flour covered face and he surprised himself by letting out a laugh. Finding himself in the moment, he grabbed an egg and cracked it, spilling the contents onto the top of her head while he reached into the whipped cream container and pulled out a finger full and quickly stuck it in his mouth, the smile never leaving his lips. Yes, this was his first food fight and yes, it was the first fun he'd ever had where it didn't involve hurting someone else. Not that he was looking to confide in anyone about his sudden revelation. Hell, he was afraid if he admitted to himself, his walls would be thrown up and he'd end up like he was only a few hours ago; cold and merciless. So instead, he just acted with the first things that popped into his head without giving them much thought. He reached out and grabbed her waist before lifting her up and sitting her on the counter before him. He stepped away from her, least she decide his actions were too bold and reached into the cabinet to her left, routing around till he pulled out some more ingredients.
"You may be surprised," he started, walking to the fridge and pulling out some ingredients. "That I can actually cook quite well." He walked back towards her and reached into the whipped cream once more before placing a dollop onto her nose. "I'm going to make you something. You just sit there and look cute." Cute? He blinked. Where was this coming from? He turned away from her, hoping to hide his surprise from her as he pulled out a mixing bowl. Because of who his father was, both he and Ren had never been interested in the opposite sex, or any sex for that matter. It was something they'd gotten out of their system at a young age from just being around their parents. Loki had never truly seen another female as being a female of interest. To him, both genders were non-existence. He chanced a glance at Anya and found a warmth spreading in his chest before went back to his task. For someone who had hated him, withstood his punishments and was now going out of her way to make him laugh, was something Loki wasn't used to and he was actually finding himself drawn closer to her. He supposed he could treat her better, as she had originally suggested. But being here, in this house, and being back in the real world were completely different scenarios. Here, he was able to forget about everything and everyone and open up his vulnerability to her but he'd slam it shit as soon as they headed back to Vegas.

Anya let out a small squeak as she felt the egg drip down her hair. It wasn't a pleasant feeling at all, but she didn't have time to really react. As he shoved some whip cream into his mouth, she opened hers to point out how gross the feel of raw egg was. Her jaw slammed shut immediately as he unexpectedly lifted her up set her down on the counter. She blinked in surprise. This was an unexpected occurrence and she tilted her head as she considered what he had up his sleeve. The only expression that crossed her features, however, was the scrunching of her nose as the cold whip cream touched the tip of it. It was all she could do to sit there quietly – and cutely as Loki said. She wouldn't complain about that one. She was cute when she wanted to be.
So she simply sat up on the counter and watched him curiously. She wasn't surprised and perhaps a tad bit confused. Before she started cooking, he seemed to imply he didn't really know his away around the kitchen past where everything was stashed. She was surprised to find out her assumption was wrong but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She also didn't think this side of the demon would be permanent. The whole thing about demons seemed to be their need for destruction and mayhem in both myth and reality. Loki seemed the poster child for the whole species. She had no doubt he would revert to to it at the drop of a hat. It was why she decided to keep her mouth shut. She didn't really want to ruin this moment of peaceful fun. As she watched him maneuver around the kitchen, she still couldn't help but wonder how long this temporary peace would last.
"Okay then," was all she said in response to his request.

He went about his cooking, lost in his own thoughts. He was overcome with just how much her presence comforted him. He could almost forget the outside world. Even having Anya relaxed and smiling seemed to lift the heavy tension that was usually in the air that normally made her lash out. It was possible that if they kept this cool and collected attitude towards each other, he would be able to trust her and maybe, just maybe, he'd have his first friend.
He threw his creation into the oven and stood back up, walking back over to her. "You're going to love it." he teased her. "I spent countless years in multiple countries, learning everything that I could and that included culinary dishes. This one hails from this very country." He stopped before her, standing just before her knees. As if working on autopilot, he reached his hands out and gently placed them on her knees, his blue eyes on hers. He had to admit, even covered in food, she certainly knew how to hold the "cute" look. Without thinking, he leaned forward and licked the whipped cream off of her nose, grinning at her as his eyes twinkled mischievously.

His explanation to what he was making only increased her curiosity but before she could respond he was in front of her. She just sat there, staring at him. It wasn't until he licked the whip cream off the tip of her nose that she moved. For moment, all she could do was blink at him with surprise. This time the tables seemed to be turned on her. She was no stranger to such actions, but being a turned werecat she usually was the initiator. It wasn't that she didn't expect such a reaction in a normal situation. She just didn't expect it from Loki. She hadn't even really expected him to jump into the food fight without an extra push. It already stunned her when the extra push wasn't needed. She thought she would have to spell it out for him. So she really didn't think it would be so easy.
Anya wasn't expecting how non-threatened she felt at him being so close to her. All the other times their proximity was like this, she wanted to rip into his chest and crush his heart because her warning alarms were going off so loud she couldn't think straight. This was different, and she didn't know how to react. It was probably a refreshing moment for the demon since the she-cat was usually like a rubber and snapped back with more intensity the more she was pulled.
“What are you doing?” she finally managed to ask him.
It wasn't that she was uncomfortable or disgusted. She really didn't know what to make of this. She was used to him being a certain way and to have him act like this actually set her off track. She didn't want to lash out at him because he wasn't giving her a real reason to. She just didn't know how to react to him now that he wasn't being this irritating asshole who purposely pissed her off. She hoped that her confusion didn't put an end to their temporary little truce, but she really didn't know what he was up to and his expression made that even harder.

For a brief moment, his expression faltered, a look of hurt crossing his face but it was quickly swallowed up by the hard outer shell he always wore, instantly hiding the vulnerability he'd been showing her. Once more, he was back to his usual self. He smirked at her and backed away, his hands leaving her knees. How could he have let himself be so stupid? He'd never opened himself up like that before, certainly not this long and certainly not to just anyone. There were only a few people in his life that had seen that side of him; Ren and Lilith.
He stumbled, hitting the wall and leaving a streak of red. The floor swayed and the darkness at the corners of his eyes was slowly taking over. He wouldn't be able to stay up right much longer. He knew she was here. He could always find her if he needed her. He struggled down the long hallway and finally, feel against the door at the end of the hall. There was only a few seconds before the door was thrown open and he found himself falling to the carpeted floor, pain lacing across his chest. "What the- Loki!" The sheer concern in her voice made his heart sputter. She did care. Maybe he had a chance at survive after all. He was being turned over, a fuzzy face looking down into his. "Who did this to you?!"
"I'm sorry, mother..." he whispered. "I've failed you..."
Lilith had healed Loki, much to his surprise and didn't comment on his weakness, for that he was grateful, and allowed him to continue on. But what right did he have to show Anya such vulnerability? She'd, so far, given him nothing to trust her on. He still found it suspicious that she wasn't afraid of him, even after all the chances he'd given her. Even now, with his hard shell brought back, he wanted to make her scream, make himself feel better, remind himself that he was a demon meant to destroy the human race. "Whatever the Hell I want to do." he told her.

Anya swallowed as she watched him change. She hadn't meant to push his walls up. As he answered her question, her hand flew up to the necklace she never took off. It was a locket and she never showed it to anyone. It was always hidden under her shirt, and for the first time in a long time, she pulled it out. She looked at Loki for a moment before opening the locket so he could read the names etched into each of the sides. In one side it read Demyan and the other was Zoya. Both were etched in Russian. She was going against every fiber of her being at this moment. No one but two people even knew those two names, and only Andrei knew the entire story.
“My husband and daughter,” she said. “I killed them during my first full moon. Lost control and lost my world.”
She knew she was opening herself up to be mocked and ridiculed. She also knew she never told him anything really important about herself. The things he could look up and determine through observation were a wall all her own. She also wasn't stupid. He opened up to her already. It was her turn. If he chose to mock her for this, that was poor taste on his part. She hadn't mocked him for his life story and she hoped he would take a page from her book instead of his own. The fact she showed him the locket was a huge gamble on her part. If anything happened to it, she didn't know what she would do. It was all she had left of the two people that meant everything to her. The two people she took out of her world with claws and teeth. She closed the locket and put it back under her shirt.
“I had horrible epilepsy as a human and he was the only one outside my family that didn't treat me like some sort of freak,” she said, refusing to look at Loki as she did so. “I know you don't give a damn about killing people but this was the first time I did. I was bitten and he took care of me. I repaid him by killing him and our six month-old daughter. I woke up to see his dead body in front of me. You might be okay with death but I certainly wasn't back then. I didn't even know what happened to me. I was scared of myself and scared of the world around me. I ran and kept going. You're hiding from your brother and I guess you could say I hide from my past.”
The only thing she had of them was the locket. Yet, she refused to think about them most of the time. She would prefer pretending they never existed than to face the horror of what she did to them. The mention of them now meant she would likely have a restless sleep as nightmares reminded her of exactly what she had done to them in every gory detail.

So she wasn't just some innocent doll. She also had blood on her hands and a past to bury. Had she been subjecting herself to his punishments simply to atone for her own sins? He stared at the locket, the meaning of a family foreign to him. Would he have felt the same if he'd woken to find he'd killed his whole family? Probably not. He'd probably be elated. But he was overlooking this. She wasn't showing him the locket and spilling her secrets because she wanted him to understand, she was doing it because she was, also, opening up her own vulnerability to him and it actually stunned him. How was he supposed to feel? What was he supposed to say? Was he supposed to laugh at her or was he supposed to sympathize with her? These were feelings he didn't know or understand. Instead, he acted. He went towards her, his eyes never leaving hers, took her head gently between his hands and kissed her. But it wasn't forceful, it wasn't aggressive; it was full of passion and the all the vulnerability he held inside himself. This was his true self. With all the dirt and debris wiped away, he was nothing more than an empty man who had nothing in this world. Her body was hot against his and he felt his heart racing. He'd found enjoyment over the centuries by pushing people away from him, by making them hate him and fear him but never had he realized he could get the same enjoyment by going to the opposite ends of the spectrum. He even let his wings out, stretching out to touch each end of the kitchen before wrapping around them like a warm black down blanket. For once, he could block out the world, pretend it was only he and Anya that existed. It would solve all his problems. She had changed him, in a way he'd never thought would have happened. Sure, it might have only been a change towards her but he was certainly a different man since he'd bumped into her. Would he leave this house and still kill someone? No doubt but she had managed to break through the ice his mother had put over his heart and it was a change that could only mean his destiny had changed.

Anya hadn't expected the kiss. Honestly, she had prepared herself for the jibes that she was used to getting from him. So when he did reach out and kissed her, she simply sat frozen on the counter for the briefest moment. Once the shock receded, she automatically kissed him back. Whether it was out of habit or because she didn't want to inadvertently push him back into being a jerk, she only pulled back after she answered his kiss in equal measure.
She looked at him before his wings caught her attention. She should have felt at least mildly uneasy with them cutting off all visible routes of escape. The tiger in her should have automatically felt trapped. Curiously enough, she was actually quite relaxed. She reached up to run a finger along one of his feathers. His wings were actually quite beautiful. The first time she was too angry and the second time too focused on his wound to really appreciate it. She dropped her hand and turned her attention back to Loki.
“Thank you,” she said.
It was a more general sentiment, thanking him for both trying things her way and listening to her sob story. Besides, she liked him better like he was now. Then again, the more relaxed and care-free a person was the easier they were to talk to. It was that side of people, Anya liked best. She liked to talk and she liked to have fun, but she fed off the atmosphere around her. If it was dark and tense, she was just as negative. The change here was refreshing.
